Me!

Hi Everyone,

My name's Dave. I've lived by some sort of water for most of my life and really got into snorkelling/crabbing when I moved back to Plym last year.
I love being underwater, at the seaside, and eating fish.

My first outing when my seac twin thunder 75 gets delivered will be to wembury where i've had some delicious spider crab and spotted some "fish" which i now believe were wrasse.

I also love treasure so I'll be getting in the hamoaze at some point.

Hope to meet some of you at some point.

Cheers.

Dave.

Thanks guys!
Due to weather and colds I've STILL not been in this year but it's sunny and my sinuses are OK and it's a tropical 3degs outside so in i go... laters.
Dave.

Thanks for the welcome, much warmer than Wembury yesterday!
It was my second time out with the spear and I got my "Wrasse of passage" at a healthy 2.5lbs bang on.

Vis was good at 3+metres, temp 9degs C
Saw plenty of nudibranchs but no spideys or silver fish.
Still working on my weight as went in with 6.8kg and was still too positive.

It really is addictive. I'm sitting in the office cursing the weekends forecast. And I need boots.

Here's the poor thing I killed:

Welcome to Deeper Blue Dave:), how are you going to eat the Wrasse then?

Thankyou!

Um. I will get back to you on that one. Realised none of my knives are sharp enough for proper filleting (excuse to buy more knives).

I might just stuff the thing with herbs, tinfoil it and oven it.
Like i said - i'll let you know later!

2.5lb That is a small wrasse mate, you won't get much meat from that poor fish!
lots of new guys shoot wrasse as there first fish but I would advise you to look for much bigger ones if you really want to kill another one.
Still if you at least try to eat it then at least it won't of died in vane.
There is not much around at this time of year.....

Yeah I just needed that first kill, 1 wrasse and one wrasse only for me. I felt quite bad priesting it on a rock. Poor thing but if I kill it, I eat it!

... off to eat my feeeeeesh.
Brb.

"Was it tasty?" I hear you all saying.
Well...

It was free protein so hells yes it was tasty.
In hindsight I should have attempted to fillet, battered then fried but I was wary of all the bones and it seemed like a lot of work so I just filled the cavity with garlic, wrapped in tinfoil and shoved it in the oven.

Took a while to cook.
Got eaten.
Bring on tastier fish please.
Weekend weather looks poop but anyone going in (plymouth/south devon) on Sunday maybe?

Cheers,

Dave.

Well there you go lesson learned!
Wrasse are amazing fish to look at and one of the pleasures we experience while diving, they can be very friendly & generally it is better to watch them than kill them. (like spearo pets)
Wrasse are extremely slow growing so please consider them with respect.
Unfortunately you are starting at the very worst time of year especially where prime eating fish are concerned, scallops, crabs & lobsters are around though....
