Time for an introduction.

My brother-in-law started spearfishing a couple years ago and got me interested in it. So the last few weeks I have been getting the gear and my son and I made a DiveYak. My polespear arrived this week and I went out for the first time on Wednesday. I was on and in the lake all day, from about 9:00 to 5:00. My brother-in-law showed up in the afternoon and got his limit of large Crappies with a few Bluegills and Sunfish. The lake was very clear for this time of year and loaded with panfish and bass. My brother-in-law made me swear to secrecy on the name of the lake.

My hunting pride took over and I wasn't going to try for the abundant midsized Crappies when the big ones kept coming out to tempt me. They for the most part where smarter than me. I did end up with three smaller fish and the one large Crappie I got, wiggled off while I struggled to get my game bag open.

I have changed a few things on my set up, so now I can't wait to get out and try again.

I grew up in Waupaca and moved to Ripon for high school. When I lived in Waupaca I did a lot of swimming and skin diving. Swimming underwater was always my favorite thing to do.

I am moving in close on 50 now and wanted to start getting some more exercise. This is a blast. The lakes close by have about two feet of visibility now, I am already looking forward to next year to get under the water near here in Vernon and Sauk county.

Below are couple photos of my son and I on the DiveYak we made.

It is made for one person so it sits rather low with the two of us on it.

It only weighs about 25 lbs., is very stable and easy to get onto from the water. My 7' spear fits nicely on it along with the rest of the gear and I can jump on it for nap :) or to paddle to another spot without having to swim the whole way.

Welcome to DB my friend! Check the forums as I believe there are members in your area!

Welcome Dan! Nice set up. Who's your brother-in-law? is he on Deeperblue? Maybe we'll see you around sometime.

If you have any questions- you're in the right spot!

I think winks has mentioned it to you, but your in our general area...try the waupaca chain of lakes...the vis is still around ten feet, some of the only water Ill still dive around here. There are a couple guys ik of in the stevens point area that spear or speared, and would like to get out again if you were looking to dive with someone more your age... Drop me a PM if you have any questions. :D

P.S. - Yaks are the way to go...congratulations on getting that right, right off the bat.

It would be great to meet you guys sometime!

I hope to go out this week and scope out four lakes in Adams Co. It is the when that I don't know. I am self employed so I have some flexibility, but my customers do have some control too. And then there is my wife and children, both of which can have plans for me as well. So I have to just take the moment as it comes.

If I have any advance notice I will post it on the "Spearing/Clarity Report - Central Wisconsin" Then if it works out for any one, I can PM my phone # for more info.

Dan
