Getting into the sport, and all of my experience has come in clear water with a sling. As they're not practical where I live now (SoCal) I'm interested in graduating to a pole spear, as it's a lower barrier to entry than a gun. Any recommendations on good model to start? My intention is to graduate to gun, but I'd still like a long-lasting good value pole spear...something that I won't grow out of but won't break the (already mostly broke) bank. Thanks in advance.

For what its worth - I a 7' pole spear made by Scuba Choice. I've been using it all summer and taken a fair bit with it. I think it is around $70 on Amazon. I have no complaints with it.

Thanks for the reply! I ended up getting the JBL 6' Aluminum fixed with a flopper. Spear by itself was $42, though shipping was tough. Looking forward to taking it out!
