introspection and abstinence

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
that is YEARS old.... and we have laughed and complained about it a million times already....

but yeah there is some truth in there (apart from last night of competition parties which are a whole different story!)

we already covered this in "where to find freediving guys that are not already in love with a dolphin"

[ame="http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthread.php?p=563042#post563042"]Where to find the freediving girls? - Page 3[/ame]

I reckon the whole "introspection and abstinence" b****s is just a big smokescreen for a bit of old fashioned emotional dysfunction.......... not been in this sport long but all the guys I've met who freedive seriously seem...........well...........a little screwy and hopeless when it comes to relationships. Maybe dolphins are just easier to handle emotionally than strong women

Bad news my friends. I was in Vatican this morning, and His Holyness Benedict the 16th was furious after reading the link. The Pope says that abstinence's okay, but that "discernibly homoerotic flavour" seriously disappointed him. Next issue will be complete ban on freediving for catholic youngmen. Anyone buy my used fins at half price?

mmm catholicism.. I was brought up by nuns at convent school... on a completely different note they taught me a very useful skill for freediving - how to get changed completely in public without anyone seeing your rude bits..

it came in very handy trying to change from one bikini to another in front of hundreds of Egyptian eyes at Blue Hole last week : )

"Convert!"

That's why Martin Luther nailed that piece of paper up: so that he could go freediving :ban

"Throwest down thyself into the holy water, and count to 3...no more, no less....'3' shall be the number of thy counting, and the number of thy counting shall be '3'......." (insert the rest of Monty Python skit here)
Peace,
Erik Y.

I remember intervening with some young, exuberant Saudi boys who were getting their friends to go and get a picture taken at a certain spot on the beach, just so that some Italian women would be included in the photo (unbenownst to the females)! They would also sit in the waist-deep water with cheap masks on their heads, then duck under as soon as a female walked into the water, literally inches away from them! I told the women, and I yelled at the guys. The funny thing was that the guys were completely in shock at my reaction, them assuming that it was ok :rcard Roland was there too I believe, and he has very little patience for that kind of crap.
I do miss Dahab though :(
Peace,
Erik Y.

And that film is regarded as a masterpiece by free divers, a total summation of what the sport is all about.

ewwwwwww was probably written by some bitter female who got dumped by a freediver.. rofl rofl
I subscribed to Dive Girl ONCE, when I saw all the feminist BS inside i cancelled the subscription... :hmm

for those of you unfamiliar with esteemed Uk publication "Dive Girl" (now defunct as far as I know) - other stand out articles included...

"How to Wee at Sea"
"Waterproof Make Up - we test the best" (useful for the girls who always wear red lipstick to competitions to hide their blue lips - you know who you are!)
"Should I sleep with my instructor - Yes or No?"

and FYI its edited by a serious tech diver - I think she has a grudge against freebies because we can do the same depths without 14 tonnes of metal tanks around us...... : )

On the other hand, Tim Ecott who wrote that article has since written some really good stuff on freediving, notably in his book Neutral Buoyancy about diving with Umberto and in UK Dive Magazines after diving with Howard Jones and more recently with Deeper Blue at the SETT tank. I have talked to him at length about freediving and he understands the error of his ways in that Dive Girl piece!

rofl rofl yeah the mag was on those lines... also about male instructors who were bullies, flowery scuba tank designs, pink regulator covers and hole load of other b***ks which made me feel embarrassed to be female!

Something like Tammy Faye Baker after a hard night on the town and running into one too many parked car windshields, I suspect rofl rofl

Hang over the fan-tail like everyone else or.... go for a refreshing dip after peeling off the suit! I mean, c'mon, this is NOT rocket science..... rofl

There was an article in the finnish "trendy urbanite" magazine, "Image" a while back. Too bad it's only in finnish, since it's such a classic...

Some money quotes:
"Of course, there is something sexy about water. Paul Valery, the french poet spoke of swimming as "mating with the waves". I wouldn't go as far, but you cannot deny the attractiveness of swimmers. No, I'm not talking about Jani Sievinen (finnish olympic swimmer), I'm talking about divers, male divers, especially free divers.

They all share the same confidence and harmonic aura which I find instantly appealing.

How could a man who can dive calmly as he was sleeping to 60m, 70m or 150m depth fail at anything? If one can be so truly elegant, corageous, so at ease with the huge, stormy alien element as the best freedivers are, is there anything you cannot control? I don't think so. You could sleep soundly in the arms of such a man"

"Take for example Loic Leferme with his long brown hair, tanned skin and saying he goes to sleep under water for 3 minutes when he dives. Beat's David Beckham in my book any day"

"The ocean is not for conquers, it's for lovers"

I wonder who they interviewed for this piece...? Seems to really have done a number on her head ;) (I have a pretty good guess)

I don't mind someone adoring freedivers, but come on. Have to remember the lover thing the next time I go mating with the waves... :duh

And don't forget protection! You wouldn't want some angry wave with a chip on their shoulder coming after you for Child Support!

Then I guess that IS what Neoprene is for.....
