The site seems to be falling to pieces!!

Now, anytime I try to send a private message - I get the following:

vBulletin Message
Your submission could not be processed because a security token was invalid.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error.

I have tried logging out/in, different browser - it refuses to process the private message :head

Thanks in Advance,
Will

Will if I could help mate then I would, but when it comes to the nuts and bolts of the computer world I’m shite.
I have however put a plea for help in the staff area so hopefully somebody will come to the rescue.
Best
Paul:)

I just sent you a message Will - It went through. Not sure exactly other than a few options I explained in the PM. the only other idea I had, was maybe the person you are trying to PM doesn't accept PM's - not sure if that is even possible or why someone would want to do that. the problem was posted on another thread- we'll see if this is a glitch or what.

Good day!

Well, personally I experience no problems with delays, or errors like you do, so I suspect there is some local routing problem in your location - apparently it not only causes delays, but also the loss or corruption of data. Can you try trace route to the domain forums.deeperblue.com? If you are on windows, launch the Command Prompt windows (in Accessories) and type in the following:

tracert forums.deeperblue.com

Then post the result here

EDIT: yes, after a bit of research, I believe it is indeed a problem of a bad connection - the security token is usually hidden at the bottom of the page, so if the page is long to load, or not loaded completely, you may get the above mentioned error. To avoid it, reload the page while holding the Ctrl key, and wait till the page fully loads. Watch the status line to see whether it was fully loaded, and without errors. If you do not have the status line visible in your browser, go to the menu View >> Toolbars and enable it there. You can also open the source code of the page (menu View >> Source). If the page does not end with </html>, then you need to reload the page again before posting.

Well, it is working now and was happening intermittently. Wasn't just me either - was chatting with a couple people via PM and they had issues too - we had to move the chat's to email.

Yes, when there are some slow-down's on the network, it often involves more people connected through the same part of network. That's why it is important to do the "trace route" and compare with others - in such way you can see where the bottle neck is.

It can also happen if the DB server is overloaded - during the rush hours, or when being hit by a bigger number of spider bots (like the Google indexing bot) in the same time you post. However, personally I did not see any slow-down's on DB since a long time (and I am a frequent visitor), so suspect more the local problem. By telling "local", it can also mean the transatlantic link, but as I wrote, only the "trace route" will tell us more.

If it work it now, you best make a traceroute too, so that you have something to compare it later when you experience the slow connection again.

Trux - appreciate your help on this. Whilst I haven't been monitoring the server stats closely I haven't seen any major issues being reported by either a broad range of users nor automated monitoring on the server.

Not to say there isn't a problem but let's get some more info and evidence.

Thanks!
