Hello from Ohio! This is an invitation to come freedive at Gilboa quarry in northwest Ohio. I understand the viz has gone to crap in all your lakes making spearing very difficult there right now. You will not be able to spear here but it is a great facility to train at. I think right now I may be the only freediver in Ohio and would love it if anyone wanted to come down for a weekend . The quarry has some fun wrecks to explore (jet, helicopter, school bus, boats, platforms at 25 and 70 ft) lots of awesome fish to see not shoot and almost always has viz in the 30-60 ft range! All the wrecks are on the shallow side at around 40 ft and the deep side drops off to 120ft. There is a rope tied off on the steps of one of the entrance docks straight down to 120 ft which is a great place to train for deep dives. I think Gilboa is only like a 4 to 5 hr drive from Chicago. Their website is Gilboa Quarry Scuba Diving They do have camping and there are hotels in nearby Findlay. I would love to meet some of you wisconsin and illinois freedivers here at Gilboa as I have all my weekends free through Sept. Let me know if you have questions or are interested in coming down.

I may be interested in this. I will see if we can't get a group of us to come down that way. Sounds like fun!

That would be great if you could get a group together!!! I am happy I posted this now as I know there are a good number of spearos/freedivers out your way. The owner of the quarry is very freediver friendly as long as you have a buddy and abide by the rules. I look forward to hearing more and maybe meeting some of you!

Scott,

Let me know some prospective dates and I'll see if I can pull it off... Will be hunting (on land) soon, so might not work.

Chris
