Ireland spearing 2007

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Set off this morning, and after seeing the surf at Redstrand, I decided to launch in a southeast facing cove as the swell was coming from the southwest.
I took some photos of cliffs and rocks outside the cove before taking some fishy pictures inside.

Here's more. I've just realised how to put pics in a row instead of a column.
I love the different patterns on wrasse.
I made 28 dives from 11.32 to 13.07, deepest 39ft, longest 1min28secs.

The weather's made it undiveable here for the moment so I've been doing some research on big bass taken.
When you read this Donnachad, I think I've pinpointed the big bass area that you sent me the article about. It's a bit late in the year for a raiding expedition maybe, and I need to buy the admiralty chart for that area in order to pinpoint exact coves and rock patches, but I reckon I know where they are within a mile or two!
If sea conditions calm down a bit I might go and have a look anyway.

Sunfish, let me know if you travelling, It's a bit wild at the moment, but i'd still like to find some likely marks for next season. I'm thinking about buying myself a kayak for christmas, i'm a bit limited without one. weekends have become very boring, roll on springtime!!!

yeah thinking about pulling out the surfboard just to get wet a couple of guys were doing tow in stuf in mullaghmore last weekend but that wont be me

Donnachad, if your looking at ocean kayak, "Prowler" and "Scupper pro" are the best models. The Prowler is a newer design of hull to take over from the scupper. Anglers like the 13ft prowler but in my opinion the 15ft is better if you get caught out in messy water. It cuts through chop and rides over swell nicely. It also holds its direction much better than a 13ft boat.
(I haven't actually tried a prowler but I'm very happy with what my 15ft Scupper does)
If I was buying another the 15ft prowler is what I'd go for.
There are several dealers in the county, so if you do buy one, shop around for a good price.
There's also a guy in Durrus who deals in a French make of kayak. He has models you can try out.

Any word on the camera yet Feargus? Lets hope they fix it for you.
I tried the video underwater for the first time last Thursday and I was pleasantly surprised. For such a small compact the video's not bad at all. I nearly like it better than stills. With stills it's so easy to take the picture 1 second too late!

Got in contact with them sunfish but I have to send it over to them and kinda up the walls at present and i have to find the receipt from them too. The guy didn't seem to think it was too big a job though.

hey !
i know i've been quite for a while, but college was fairly hectic and have been away for the last 2 weeks. weather hasn't been great by any standards.
the weather bouy at M6 clocked 14.2 metre waves at 21:00 on sat night. didn't see it after that, don't know if it went higher?

garrett, checked out that link for the tuna, and found another link to somewhere else, which had jacks listed as an unusual fish, which should be reported if sighted.

heading to Kuwait on friday, with some friends from college. should be savage, but will be back christmas eve. will get photo's up if i get some decent ones. think we'll be able to get out for a dive over there, but not sure what the underwater life is like since the war. they take crabs using hand spears in very shallow water i think, which i must have a go of.

can't wait to get back in the water, but now looks like it'll be the christmas day, or the day after before i get a chance. this week is a complete write off, as we have our faculty ball on wednesday night.

think i might visit a friend in donegal for one or two days over christmas, and will bring the gear.

sorry for rambling on,

merry christmas!

in case i don't get a chance to say it again before christmas eve.

Hi Abusingelves, Kuwait must be a brilliant place to dive at this time of year. Bet there's some huge fish. I don't suppose you'll chance the speargun but make sure to pack fins and maybe a light weightbelt (in you're carryon bag to avoid excess weight charges). Enjoy the ball but don't forget guidelines for safe use of alcohol (three half pint glasses).roflroflrofl

HI TO ALL OF YOUS!!
My name is Allen Marshall, south african and just moved to Ireland. Co. Westmeath. How are you all doing? Any big ones?

Hi Allan welcome to db, I am sure Sunfish & co will be along to welcome you shortly.

Hi Allen, did you spearfish in S.A. ? There's no diving here at the moment because of weather. The waves off the atlantic have been over 50ft in parts of the west coast. I went to look at the sea on Monday with a veiw to diving on Tuesday but the water was still pretty much brown.
Anyway, welcome to DBforums.
