I have a trip planned to the Bahamas in June for spearfishing. I have a 3mm Riffe digi-tek wetsuit. It is a 2 piece, hooded, Open Cell wetsuit. I planned on wearing just the pullover with a pair of board shorts, but watching youtube video of spearos in the Bahamas with skins on got me wondering if my 3mm would be too much. Any insight y'all can offer would be much appreciated.

Also, as far as personal factors go, I have little body fat and I lean more on the side of being a little wimpy in the cold.

That suit in June in the Bahamas will be way to hot, unless you are staying in the water all day. Even then, probably too much. A 3 mil surfer shorty is more than plenty. In June, I wear a l mil Riffe, short pants, long sleeve hooded top. It fits poorly, but is all that is needed, and I'm a very skinny.

Ill be in the water a good portion of the day, and I'll also be in the water almost every day. So I suspect that the first day will be the only time I will be putting on a suit that is dry. Do you think that it would still be too hot, even if I only wore the pullover?

Either go with a 2mm closed cell or a 1.5mm open cell (Yazbeck or hammerhead). Anything more than 2mm open cell will cause you to overheat and get dehydrated, and your breath-hold will deteriorate in turn.

Safe trip!

I also have the Riffe digitek 1.5mm and have dove in South Florida all summer with it. I used just the top and board shorts. It wasnt too hot for me, but Im used to diving in warm water. Another alternative is just to wear a camo rash guard, I do that a lot too. I know Riffe makes their digitek in a non-hooded lycra top. Tilos makes a 2 piece hooded lycra wetsuit/rash guard that would work great in the warm water, and Cressi also has a blue camo lycra rash guard
