I like the bungee cord since holds the knife in the sheath. I couldn't find a photo that focused on that, but in that last one where I'm holding a yellowtail with Daryl Wong, you can see the bungee stretched over the back of the sheath.
I have varied my knife locations in recent years. My latest configurations include my flat knife or my newer spearo dagger on my right inner calf, my homemade iki jime spike and/or spearo dagger on my weight-belt and/or Samurai small spearo dagger on my left arm (exactly where varies) or on my belt.

Still experimenting but now usually carry 2-3 knives/spikes.

But, having lost my lovely, small, Omer USA Laser spearo mini dagger, and almost lost my cheap, flat knife, I now normally secure most of my knives to their sheath will a homemade "spring" of medium strength monofilament fishing line* ( that I can break or cut in an emergency). Has worked well for me for several years - and we Spearos use our knives more than most - "your mileage may vary". ;)

* Sometimes I attach a short length of thin bungee to my "mono-spring", for more stretch.
