Is all this insane, or what?

Trux: today's dive by Genoni was sponsored/paid by Mares. Certainly the costs associated with certifying a diving record must be paid by the entity sponsoring the record, be it a club, a commercial enterprise, or a government who wants to promote a turistic place, for instance. I believe AIDA should promote the World Championships event as a unique opportunity to try to set new records under the best of circumstances. The TV rights should provide enough financing, as in the Soccer World Cup, and help promote the sport. Other than that, whoever wants to attempt a world record with the spotlight only for him or herself, should find a way to bear with the costs of certifying.

I do not know if this has been discussed before, but wouldn´t Herberts EQEX-approach to NO-limits somewhat protect him from decompression sickness? If it is harder to suffer from decompression problems during an FRC-dive wouldn´t the EQUEX do the same thing? I mean exhaling into a ballon at moderate depth will leave him with less gass in the system to be compressed. When he retreaves it again it will only enter his sinuses and ears. Less nitrogen will be dissolved into the blood or whatever. And wouln´t the chance of narcosis be slightly minimized this way to?

I do not know if its so or if it has been discussed earlier, but for me it makes sense anyway. Any thoughts?

ofcoarse there´s still a chance of decompression and the EQUEQ is pobably not the reason why Herbert didn´t suffer from DCS on his no limits dives (or maybe he did, I do not have a clue really). My thoughts was just that the EQUEX might push your personal DCS limit deeper at a given ascent rate.

To make an official world record in freediving is a big thing. AIDA have verify'd 169 world record this far, all following the AIDA rules and most of them, 99%, with AIDA Judges at the spot. There was some early dives from some well-known Cuba freediver that was accepted as AIDA world record because we had access to the orginal videos from the dives. This happen in the mid 90es, and will not happen anymore.

When it comes to the cost to have the AIDA judges there to verify the dive as official, it's in most records a sponsor thing. Only in few cases the money was from the pocket of the freediver. There is no money to the judges(salary) and the only thing that comes extra is the 500 euro for the dopingtest and that incl the administration costs. If you want to check the way the judges are selected to the record attempts, there is a good document about this on the AIDA-site that you can download.

EQEX - the EQualize EXtension tool, is probably helping the freediver when it comes to DCS, but we don't have any proof about this yet. What we do know is that the EQEX helps when it comes to equalize in very deep dives with your head up. (sled-diving that is*) ...to use the EQEX in the right way take some time, and is nothing you can handle right away. You find pictures on Herberts EQEX here: http://www.apneamania.com/code/page.asp?pageID=5
And you find Herbert "how to do" on www.herbertnitsch.com and klick on ARCHIVE.

The AIDA Guidline for sled-diving is soon ready to be publish, but please be patience, it's not an easy job to make this document.

best regards

(* there is some free-immersion divers going with there feet first as well, but there will probably be a rule that only alow EQEX in sled-diving)
