I recently got a nikon colpix l3. Its only 5.1 MP, and im wondering if its worth it to buy a underwater housing for it.

I don't know the camera... but about the MP, mine is only 4.1 and i bought a housing for it and i would again. Most people want a bigger MP camera and then use the smaller size pics to take more in the same card... what's the point???
A picture a 5.1 MP is a big one ( Probably twice the size of you screen) even if you want to crop a part for a specific detail.
this is only my opinion and there will be some users that can help you more.

I use an Oly 5050 that's only a 5.5 megapixel camera and shoot in raw or tiff, at low ISO (64/100) to get the best quality and largest image for some leeway in editing.

I've recently sent some large prints, (30 x 40 cm) to a friend taken with this camera after bumping them up to 50 MB files (to handle 300 dpi printing) and they turned out really well, even suprising me as it was the first time I printed something up so large. There wasn't any loss in quality. These were some of the shots found in my "Galicia" album. My "El Hierro" album was also taken with the same camera. Click on the link in my signature to acess them.

I'm sure you will be abe to get some very good images with your Coolpix.

Thanks for the info, i just wanted to make sure that the camera was worth buying a housing for before spending the money.
