does anyone get really itchy after diving? My thighs and buttocks get really itchy after diving, pool or sea. Is it the neoprene? I have tried antihistamine, calamine and all sorts and cant seem to cure it.

could be the neoprene could maybe be soap or conditioner if you use it is it a new suit?could be a some sort of thing like athletes foot but in your wetsuit

Sands, this begs an interesting question, are you weeing in your suit?

Long story, but being a guy I've installed a pee valve in all my suits. However on a recent dive boat trip in Tonga, I removed the valve to be politically correct. To make the story short in ended up with the same itch that you described and no amount of lotion would make it go away. So the valve is going back in for next weeks trip to Hawaii, appearance be dammed.

Haven’t got a clue why yer itchy me dear but I’m a dab hand with a bottle of anti itch oil….;);)
Try using a solution of baby oil to lube your suit with instead of hair conditioner.
And just to be sure it might be best to post a picture of the affected area’s of the afore mentioned buttocks!!:chatup:chatup:D:D

Baby oil is an option, but all you really need is a bold gentleman to (gently) scratch your itchy thighs. And, if I may dare say, I'll keep my fingernails trimmed round for just in case.......:inlove

Now baby oil and trimmed fingernails.... Hmmmm :inlove

Seriously.. Yes I do pee in my suit but normally flush it out in the sea, also, if that were the case why doesn't anywhere else itch as well? Belly is fine - I wondered if the skin around that area is more sensitive due to "40 year old womanliness" :D

Would like to hear any of the womenfolk if they have had a similar experience.

As for the pee valve... You're lucky to have an appendage that fits into one.. ;)

If anything ever is for sure, we like you without the appendage better!

now seriously: could it be parasites attack on your wetsuit (something like this happened to Jon quite recently)?
Or maybe aquatic parasites? do you always dive the same area since you had this problem? and what's the water temp? In lake Garda we have a presence of parasites (a small bug of the chironomidae family) that causes itchyness and small dots. They rise from the bottom to superficial waters when it's particularily hot (central summer at noon). Just an idea...

Try giving your suit a soak in a solution of this stuff after you’ve finished the dive.
Since I’ve been using it I’ve not had any problems with itchy anything, and it make’s your suit smell like a spring day, all posh and poncy.:):)

Mate if I can help then you know the number.:)

Rocquette the finest of ciders, trouble is it makes Spaniard dribble.
Sounds like a plan though and if I can get time off work that close to Christmas then I’ll be there.:friday:friday:friday

Well we are having a yule log party on the 27th, I can send podge an invite but Spaniard has left the E mail club due to lack of cleverness! (sorry if thats a bit cryptic)

Yes, I used to get it a lot. Thighs only. Mostly in the pool, but I cannot say really because it's very rare, sadly, that I can swim in the sea. At that time I was in the pool perhaps 3 times a week for 1-1.5 hours, the problem was most intense when I had my shorty on, i.e. the end of the shorts just above the knee was also the region where it was itching the most. But I had it also with the long trousers on, a little less. The itching would start sometimes as soon as I was in the water, sometimes when I got out of the water. In the first case I would spend half of my static scratching my legs.... :vangry

I solved my problem, but the problem itself was a combination of factors. The easiest culprit is your wetsuit. Do you get this kind of itching only when you have your wetsuit on? Is it always the same or with different ones? In particular, do you get any itching without the wetsuit?

Hi, i often get an itching on my behind after any time in the water, especially if i have a car journey home or if i have to sit down. i don't think it has anything to do with wearing a wetsuit as i play octopush at least twice a week, and all i wear for that is spedos, and get the itch after most sessions, so i think it is something to do with water getting into the skin (like when you spend too long in the bath and you go like a prune). what i am sure of though is that its nothing to worry about, as i get it at leat once a week and i dont think i have any long term effects (fingers crossed). Thanks for reading.

I'm so sorry that I read this thread after all the good lines had been taken.

rofl:mute (I was going to say "nothing that a good spanking wouldn't fix" - but that's too predictably British:D).

Cold sometimes makes my legs itchy (as the feeling/blood comes back perhaps) but its warm out there isn't it. Dettol for cleaning wetsuit occasionally but I think the smell might not be so good for spearing, so I don't use much & use it only occasionally. Foxfish's anti-bacterial soap as lube idea might be better?

I started getting itchy legs after diving and it has now turned into itchy legs even after just having a shower although it doesn't happen after a bath. The only cure i've found is to get back in the shower and have a 2nd shower in really hot water-so hot it burns and that stops the itching. It is really annoying and I have been meaning to go to the doctors about it for nearly 10 years now but never got round to it. Thought I was the only one!
