James Bond Director to direct Freediving tribute film “The Dive”

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Does anyone have any information on whether it will be based entirely on Pipin's book "The Dive", or at least partially on Carlos Serra's "The Last Attempt"?

I have to say, this project terrifies me, having had access to all sources.

I think the drama will be exploited to sell us some 'new' ideas.

Based allows for a wide range of liberties. So basically we don't know. But since "Pipin's" book is mentioned he'll receive a kickback. We Freedivers will also get a kickback, the one in the behind kind of kickback, and as a result a wave of naive people will have freshly primed reactions whenever the word diving emerges.

Though I'm not expecting much, I hope they get a bit more depth at least to the level of Le grand Blue. I'm just disappointed with the fake and shallow modern push button productions. Well we'll see, if it's turns out bad then it won't have too many viewers. If it's popular then we have more to worry about.

The way hollywood works is that the "rights" to make a movie based on the book were sold to James Cameron's company (it's often a way of making a bit more money off a book - however most books that sell the rights don't ever make it into production). Depending on what the rights were sold as you could end up with a very different version to what was in the book (how many times have you heard about movie adaptions of famous books not being well received by fans).

Ultimately the film will feature freediving (especially as Cameron is a huge fan of the sea and diving) but whether it focuses on Pipin/Audrey "love story" or the events around the fateful day we will have to wait to see.

Who knows - only if it comes out will we know...
