I posted this reply a while ago in the "epiglottis training" post. I did it since i thougt it might have something to do with how i hold my air in during static. I have now decided to start a new thread.

A quick question concerning static and jaw tension. I find myself being able to go for a very long time on land, but when I hit the water my times are more moderate. I can think of a lot of reasons. It IS harder to go for a long time in the water, but the difference should not be that long. Recently I have noticed i get a kind of jag tension in the water where my lover jaw starts to shiver when i get into the struggle fase.

Why is this? Yes I train most of the times on land for different reasons and this would get me accustomed to land conditions, but why do i get this jaw tension orr whatever in the water but not on land? It has nothing to do with the ammount of air i hold in, i think. Is it just a problem with relaxation or something that happens with the inverted head position?

This may seem obvious, but are you cold in the pool? Even being a bit cold can cause tension.

In statics and dynamics my jaw starts to tremble about half way through the effort. I thought it might have been cold but in some instances i've been reasonably warm. I also thought it might be some type of reaction to higher CO2 but I have no evidence to back this up. It is quite annoying anyway. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Ben

I am not sure about the cold. I do not feel cold during my static, the other way around. But AFTER a series of statics i very often get cold. I do not think it is the cold, but i cannot be sure.

sometimes I think it may only be a mental relaxation factor, since when i tend to start to tremble it is during the struggle phase, when I have to struggle hard that is. Maybe my mind is so set on struggeling so I get some trambeling reaction. I do not know, but it does not happen all the time.
