I have the 38 special. Filled it w/ 2 part foam. WHY DOESN"T IT FLOAT! and has anyone made their JBL float....how did you do it.

Thanks for any help.

If your tube is already filled with foam, there aren't many other options besides wings.

The only 2 areas I can see to work on is filling the handle with foam & the back mini-tube. I know a couple people with the wong magnum hybrid where a chunk of divinycell in the handle changed the gun from barely negative to barely positive.

The other option is to find some insulating foam tape to wrap around the barrel like the Esclapez Merou D'or.

How negative is the gun?

BTW, why'd you go with the foam instead of sealing the tube well?

Hiya

Don't know the gun, but many of our local spearo's use camoflauged neoprene sleeves that you simply pull over you barrel. Might be worth a try!!

Just my 0.02 but air gives better bouyancy than foam. If you put foam into a barrel you make it heavier underwater as foam takes the place of air. I did what you did, (a few years back) instead of all the warnings I got and finally understood that I should first make the interior of the barrel completely watertight. Then I filled with foam all the empty spaces iside the handle, replaced kevlar line on the reel with thicker, floating line and adjusted a small Sporasub float towards the front part of the gun. That did the trick!
The general idea behind this is to keep as much air volume inside the barrel and add bouyant materials on the outside parts of the gun.

As I said before just my 0.02.
Cheers

I have a JBL explorer, who sinks like a rock. I changed the massive steel head with a head made from polymer resin (similar to the omer open muzzle), put a 6mm shaft w/out the slide ring, put 250lbs mono, shorten the unuseful butt, put a single 5/8 band, with dyneema wishbone, sealed the barrel, and filled all the handle with insulating foam... and it still sinks!

The last thing it rests to do is to stick noeprene to the barrel. But all these changes made the gun very fast and accurate. Hard to believe from a JBL!

never bothered to get my NW Special to float. you might be able to plug the barrel and use air to make it lighter, but it;s such a heavy tank of a gun, I doubt it will ever float.

Stretch, that thing will not float unless you tie a boat scotchman to it ;) I've foamed a few JBL's and they are still 3+ lbs negative. Crap gun for freedivers.
Peace,
Erik Y.
