I didn't get any hits when I searched the DB forums for this guy's name, so hopefully I'm not rehashing an old thread, but I thought other "water people" would appreciate this. He's not a world record holder in depth, but definitely in distance. Fondueset, he mentioned being in Traverse City, MI this past April. Did you happen to catch his apperance?

Jim Dreyer is simply amazing. The guy went from being deathly afraid of the water and only able to do a doggy paddle, to swimming across all five Great Lakes AND doing the LENGTH of Lake Michgan alone while pulling his gear in a kayak attached to his ankle! He's definitely one of my heroes.

He getting ready to the entire Great Lakes basin from Duluth MN to the end of the St Lawrence Seaway - 1300 miles!

ck out his website:

Jim Dreyer- New Horizons Ultra-Marathon Series

Fantastic example of the human capacity.

It may not involve swimming, but I actually met this lady in my local coffee shop about two weeks ago as she was working her way across Wisconsin.

Rosie

She runs about 20 miles a day while towing a 300 pound trailer behind her. She pretty much has no body fat on her and was very humble about the whole thing. She told another woman I know, who bought her lunch, "It's no big deal Dear, what your doing (raising kids) is much harder".

Very cool stories about Jim Dreyer and Rosie. Thanks for posting.

Remember that guy who posteda few months back about swimming a very long distance using a hookah system? Did he make it?
