I need advice from all of you regarding a small dilemma that has developed between my wife and I.

A new dive shop opened up recently near my home and I have gotten to know the owner Chris (who just moved down from Quebec) pretty well. Chris is a technical diver but enjoys freediving and spearfishing just as well. Up in Quebec Chris was and I am sure still is a famous diver. There are about 500 pictures on the dive shop wall of Chris and other Quebec divers.

We have been diving a lot lately and my wife keeps complaining that I have been spending less and less time at home because we are always diving. I must say that getting in tight with a dive store owner does have its benefits. There are times when I have wanted to try something new and Chris just says go ahead, take it out and try it.

But back to the problem. I had my wife drop me off this morning at the marina since today was a great day to dive. Chris had the boat all gassed up and ready to go when it all came to a head. She waits till she is dropping me off at the boat to start letting into me about how she doesn't want me going diving with Chris and That I should start paying her more attention!!!

The Big Question: Have any of you experienced this kind of issue?

Any of you from Quebec probably know Chris, if not, here is a photo.

Hmmm clearly your wife is over-reacting, but I think the problem is that she has worked out that there is no way those "ballons" can sink...

So the diving must be a euphemism... rofl

Nice one Jim, but I'm sorry to tell you that Miles has done it a year ago!!!

Sorry Said, but you have already gone around to three other posts and used that same sentence.

And just how did Miles get a picture of my wife??? :vangry

Have I ever experianced this?? Of course.
Is it infuriating? Of course.
Can you do anything about it? Of course, but you may not like the solution much, even if it works out well.

My wife thinks the ocean is my other wife, whom I love more than guess who. She isn't right but has a small (but significant) point. I've been in your situation many times and solve it with a, sometimes long, heart to heart talk. Such talks are not my thing but are an absolute necessity, at least for us. My lady is damn near perfect except for this "ocean" thing, and I'll do what it takes to keep her straight. Sometimes diving has to give, a little. Mostly I have to up my attention to her when I'm not diving. Sounds to me like you let this one go too long and it might be wise to retreat more than would otherwise be required, at least in the short term.

Good luck and my sympathy,

Connor

One of my German freediving friends when visiting me with his wife to freedive here settled on an "alternate day" solution. One day with her, one day diving.

One could also try to convince her by saying "Look how much more time you'll have for shopping!" or "Think how nice it will be to get back together after such a long time of not seeing each other!"

Somehow though, I don't think these examples will work! ;)

Just tell the Wife it a safety issue.
With those flotation devices i dont think you will ever drown.
Get smothered to death maybe, or the odd black eye but never drown.

First, you have to be MUCH more careful about your terminologgy.... Don't EVER tell your wife that you are "getting in tight" with the dive store owner, particularly if said dive store owner is of the opposite sex (of you!).... VERY bad idea... :naughty

Second, that photo was taken to show off the TV Tower in Toronto... See it in the background? And the caption was something abou tweaking the knobs when I got it last week rofl
