Hello everyone!

I found this forum when I was looking for answers on my ear-pain-problem that occurred recently. I am 27 and have been spearfishing since I was 7. I don't hunt deeper than 10 meters and I never had any problems with balancing the pressure. However, for the past 2 seasons, I experience an unusual pain in the ears, even if I dive in the water not deeper than 3 or 4 meters. The pain does not start instantly under water, it slowly gets to me and then doesn't leave for atleast a day. It's quite strong, so I didn't get to dive at all for the past 2 years, because the pain always occurrs already at the first dive. I suppose it feels like my ears were infected, but I have visited 2 different ear specialists and a personal doctor and none of them found that there would be anything wrong with my ear or nose channals. I really hope one of you can help me find the solution or etleast the reason for my problem, since the new season has already started and I'm afraid I'll be forced to sit another one out.

Thank you all very much!

A couple of friends of mine had real trouble with their ears. One in particular couldn't even put his head underwater in a swimming pool, no matter how much he tried to equalise he just couldn't. I suggested using docs pro plugs to him (advice from another friend with sinus problems). He's purchased some and can now happily dive to the deep end in a pool -3.5m- as long as he equalises before he dives.

I now don't dive without my plugs and never have issues equalising so maybe try these. Just make sure you get the vented ones with a small hole in them

Good luck and dive safe

Yeah man, Doc's Ear plugs, JBL makes an inferior version. One thing that might help is to
start equalizing at the surface, do not wait.

Hey, thanks for replies. I always start equalizing right away. Will try the plugs though, it just might work!
Although I read the plugs do not help and can even be dangerous, but those with holes in them should probably be ok :)

The ones with holes in are ok to use and they can help prevent swimmers ear. I've read somewhere some freedivers have dived to some serious depths using the vented ones.
