Right, well here's one to get you started. Dover sole weighing in at just shy of 3lb (2lb 15 1/8 oz).

We were out on a Wessex Club dive (see thread at http://forums.deeperblue.com/europe-mediterranean/85833-wessex-spearfishing-club-2010-a-5.html for anyone who want's to join or browse). I had been diving a bit deeper in a bay local to Poole and hadn't seen much. It was nearly time to come in, so I decided to nip outside the bay, briefly, to a shallower spot that I thought might hold some fish. During my first decent, in about 4 meters of water, I spotted this little doormat lying exposed on the sand. I stopped mid-dive and decided to impose a bit of a dilemma upon myself: do I carry on, and spear the fish by hand? Or do I shoot it from here, and risk all the things that go with that. If it had been a plaice, or flounder, I would have gone with the hand spear option, but I really wanted this fish, and didn't want to risk losing him by spooking him as I got close with the spear. So I took the shot from a couple of meters away, and then descended straight onto him as he went banzai on the end of the spear.

In retrospect, it would have been a better option to go for the hand spear, because the flopper had clogged with sand and didn't open - and he could easily have escaped from the spear.

But he's in the bag now, and it's a lesson learned for next time.

In this morning with Stew (poolewanderer) at a spot of his choice, Vis was great. Didn't see many fish where i was but stew saw quite a few mullet and a bass, i saw one bass but was out of range. I decided to go and try over by some rocks and on the way there was alot of sandy patches so scouted them out for any flatties, i looked down and i saw something out of place, it looked liked 2 googly pebbles with a curved slit behind so dived down to it and when i got closer i could see the outline of the fishes head, i didnt want to scare it off so i speared it, followed the spear down and grabbed the other end so the fish couldnt escape, it looked as though the body was never ending. Once i had secured it, i swam to the surface to check out this lovely specimen of a sole. It weighed in at 3lb 10oz
First ever sole for me.
