there seems to be a lot of people that want to go out and kill TONS of carp, and this is good. get the rough fish out, but why dont we do another thing? there is a lake around where i live called sunset. it is spring fed (trout live in one end of it) and has a massive ammount of fish. im thinking that maybe sometime this summer or next we get some people here (many camping grounds) and we can have a bluegill off or something? then at the end of the day count everyone's totals, and then have a fish fry? ik that i could get a group of at least 10 from just around here. lets hear some opinions. there would also be time for people to visit MANY other great dive sites, within 30 min of that lake.

My 2 cents is we want to be carefull about taking large amounts of pan fish out and being "public" about it...there are many other posts with this same opinion. See the Spearing Contest thread in this forum for examples.

This is why we went with rough fish...this is a positive for the spearing sport.

Again, my 2 cents.

point well taken. however there are more than enough for everyone, and people around here know that. in addition, you will rarely see more than two fishermen on the lake at a time. at this particular lake, i have never been spearing at the same time as a rod and reel fellow. most of them come early morning or late night in hopes of catching the trout

If there's trout in there you better double check the spearing regulations to see if it's legal. On some trout infested lakes it's legal to spear and in others it's not.

I'm with Gene on sticking to rough fish for any kind of contest- just because it's legal doesn't mean we won't still get a boat load of crap from the hook and line crowd. :head

On the other hand, I could see a camping weekend up there to spear some panfish for us to eat at night.

very true. not to mention that i am the county in between your red granite, and wazee. so its just a hop, skip, and a jump from lots of great places.
