Hi, I'm a competitive swimmer/water polo and hoping to take some scuba lessons for the first time this winter in the Virgin Islands. I hope this group can lend me a hand in getting properly prepared.

One immediate question I had is that I have a couple of full body competition swimsuits. One is mostly nylon, the other mostly polyester. Can I use either of these suits for the VI diving or do I need to invest money for the neoprene stuff? Just not sure what the water temps would be there in January, February or March.

Thanks!
Robert

Hello Robert, welcome to Deeperblue :) You'll probably end up getting a neoprene suit if you end up wanting to dive again, and chances are that you will become addicted to it like the rest of us. Start browsing the forums and do a search for suit thickness. Be Very Aware of the type of suit that you're getting, and the cost for that suit. A scuba suit can easily run you $400+. On the other hand, some suits are warmer, more comfortable, and cheaper, especially more comfortable if they're custom-made. Plus, you don't end up with those funny stripes that scuba suits have :D Feel free to ask questions, too.
