I just recently purchased an ocean kayak (the same one Mr. X uses to my knowledge) and i decided to put a fancy custom redneck paint job. The (spray)paint (designed for use on plastic) got the crap scratched out of it on my first use. Does anyone know what a good clear coat would be to put over the paint job to get a little more durability?

Thanks,

Pete

In that case you have problems because I have never found a paint that will stick to polythene.
Apparently there is a type of etch primer available in the states but I have never been able to find any for sale.
Triumph is an American company that build polythene boats, they use an etch that allows there boats to be further antifouled.

I paint my plastic fins. They are quite layered with paint now, as I repaint them periodically when the paint has scratched off. The two things which lasted longest for me were brush on exterior oil paint & aersol enamel paint (somebody's left over World of Warcraft paint I believe). Obviously these might react with some plastics but seemed to do no harm on my fins.
