Hi,

Lately I have found myself switching to a dolphin kick when contractions start, mostly on ascent.
It seems very natural and effective,
but I'm wondering if this is ok,
it seems very natural.

Thanks for the advice,

Doug

Sometimes when I feel contractions I'll do a few quick kicks, then coast for a time. This is in the pool though and not coming up from depth. I've also wondered if that's a good thing to do or if I'm using up oxygen quicker or maybe getting my heart to pick up a little. Most of the time I try to keep an even rhythm going but sometimes it's tough.

I don't know why switching to a dolphin kick wouldn't be o.k..

I'm still trying to figure out for sure which kick is the most efficient for me. So far it seems that the dolphin kick is less efficient but maybe that's because I have not perfected it or used it as much as a regular kick. I know if I want, I can sure move fast using the dolphin kick.

dolphin kick on ascent

A number of freedivers use dolphin kick on the ascent when their legs start to "burn". So switching to dolphin kick they start to use the body muscles and "easing things up" on the legs.
Using dolphing kick when you're bi-finning is not efficient in terms of speed but it is a sort of a "rest" for the legs.
