I need some advice and opinions please! I am not a big pro in spearfishing and apparently I don’t get much opportunity to do it. I have done spearfishing in last 3 maybe 4 years, it deepens if I go on holiday! I need to chose good but for reasonable price speargun! Most of my spearfishing I do in Greece!

I used to own Beuchat Marlin 90cm with 20mm bands. But Apparently when I went to Russia my uncle liked it so much he just forced me to present it to him =(
And I used to have Cressi fins Gara300, so we went in Russia with my friends to have a swim in the river, one of my mates asked to try my fins and guess what??? He drown one of them =( sad story.

So now I need to chose nice speargun and fins. I was thinking to get 100cm which is good size I think for Greece.
I was thinking about Cressi Comanche, Sporasub Instinct carbon, JBL Mahogony which is about 60 inches I think that is too long for Greece, Seatec Gabbiano.
Apparently I am looking to spend between £100 to max £150 which is $145- $220

And what fins could you advice me to get not expensive about £80 which is 120$?

I am happy to get any advice!

Many thanks for you time !By the way happy Easter!

Seatec Gabianno sounds good to me. Or Omer Cayman. Rob Allen Tuna/Caranx/Sparid (just different rubber configurations). Rabitech. Comanche is well regarded, here in the UK, I have only heard of the smaller sizes, 65/75/90. Or Beuchat Mundial? Dessault?

Thank you very much for your response! Good suggestions i think! Apparently I lived in the UK for 7 and never had opportunity to do spearfishing here its a shame,I am going in July to Greece that's why I am looking for gear now, which will suitable for Mediterranean conditions. What do you think of Sporasub instinct carbon?

Many thanks I appreciate your reply !

Welcome Artur. Some other Russians hang about on DB and a few people who spear in Greece as well. From a previous question from someone in the UK who wanted advice on a speargun for Greece I seem to remember that pneumatic guns are very popular there. Have you considered an air gun?

Dave

Thanks for the reply, personally I don't like that much air guns, they don't feel that natural, any way that's personal !

Thanks Dave for suggestion!

Sea tec gabbino

Well I Thing youl have to start spearing in the uk. There is even a london club!

thank for the reply, its difficult dessision, it seems that alot of people like sea tec gabbino! are they that really good ?

Today i won the auction on ebay for sporasub instinct carbon 100 all together with postage will cost me £136.50 which is 152 Euro. what do you people think?is it good price for such gun or to much?
thanks!

Sporasub instinct carbons retail at 200+ euros but scubaland have them at 140 euros including vat and delivery to the UK. Actually just checked and scubaland only have 90's left.

So you did okay compared to retail price but always worth checking the internet for deals.

Thanks Dave, actually I did searched around and they seemed to be expensive. I hope its good product!

In case the link doesn't work.

The Sporasub Instinct speargun's design is probably one of the most elaborate on the market. Good muzzle and handle. It is equipped with a unique and handy line holder system which improves the safety.
Shown here in its stiff carbon barrel version. (ref : P6023319

I have always thought they were one of the better looking commercial guns, I reckon it might kick a bit though with twin bands?

thanks for the full specifications! Probably double bands, would be powerful, i hope it will not overload the muzzle.

Thank you very much for your response! ... What do you think of Sporasub instinct carbon?!
I've never used or seen one and haven't read any reviews on them or heard anything (try searching the forum, others probably have), nor any other Sporasub product - except the Snake dagger which is excellent by all account - so I can't comment but I think they look interesting and original. I've seen them at quite attractive prices (can't recall where though - perhaps it was scubaland.fr?).

When it will come I shall let you know what I think of it!

Now my next thing is choosing good fins, its very hard, carbon seems to be good choice, but all of them expensive and there is a posibility to break them easily,I was thinking of glass fibre fins something like captain nemo, Please dear readers make some suggestions, maybe on-line store,or factories that I could approach.

Thank you in advance !

I have the Nemo's but only because I was able to get some second hand. Last year I tried lots of places but couldn't find anyone to supply them. Member "Dobs" runs a store in Bulgaria and he sells them. He's very helpful but there are problems buying them to ship out of Bulgaria. Mainly I think you can't use a credit card or pay pal and have to use bank transfers. His shop is really just for Bulgaria. Couldn't find anyone else who stocked them.

There are quite a few other glass fibre (GRP) fins about now including some new Omer ones. I haven't tried them though.

Staff member "Spaghetti" is very good at italian web sites/shops. Maybe he can help.

Thanks again Dave, hmm so do you like Nemos what is your opinion, how good are they? I am not going to have a problem getting them , because there are some in Ukraine and I have some relatives there who can pick them up and send it different way to London which will be cheaper, if they are good I will get a pair try them out, and then if they are that good I could maybe make business arrangement with the guy to make supply into the UK for further distribution.

Thank you Dave

The nemo's are good fins. They come in 3 stiffnesses and unfortunately mine aren't marked. I think they are the softess as they are pretty soft. For most divers in the UK I'd go for mediums. They are a tough blade as are all glass ones so they last well. Best fins I have used are the Omer Ice but I broke 2 of them and even though they have a 3 year warranty and the first blade was replaced I lost faith in them. They are a great fin though and lots and lots of UK spearo's use them. I have tried some carbons but for "normal" divers they are not worth it in the UK, in my opinion anyway.
