Hi all,

A little background...I'm considering taking a freediving clinic in about 2 weeks, but need a suit ASAP. So I've narrowed down my choices to the Picasso Apnos and a Sporasub Viper suit. Both (I believe) are 2 piece apnea suits, both similar in prices, and both will have to be special ordered since no LDS have any in stock, so trying on some sizes isn't an option. I found the Picasso suit online, and a buddy told me about the Sporasub suit.

Also, I'm not sure which thickness to get, the 5mm or 7mm thickness. Admittedly, I'm a big wuss when it comes to cold water , so I'm leaning towards the 7mm. Apart from flexibility issues, is there any other issues with regards to the 7mm vs. the 5mm suits?? Keep in mind I am in the Ottawa area.

Any advice is welcome!

Thanks!

If you are unsure of suit choices - it is always best to start with a warm suit and then get a thinner suit later rather than vice versa.

I recommend a 7:5 combo - with the 5 on the legs as the legs seem to be more cold tolerant than the torso. It also helps kicking action.

I use Picasso suits, but I used to have a sporasub suit.

The buckle attachments on sporasuits are good.

I'd go for whichever is cheaper for a first suit as you'll probably upgrade at some point.

Woohoo! Just thought I'd update this thread. I ended up ordering a 5mm Picasso suit from scubastore.com. Let me say, the shipping was incredible....from Barcelona to Ottawa in 2 days, not too shabby!

So, thanks to scubastore, and assuming a decent fit, I will be taking the local freediving clinic.
