Anyone been on one of these courses? I was thinking about going to Hawaii in November and attending...

Can anyone give me some feedback? I know that it's probably THE course/training agency to go on.. just wanted to hear back from somone who had actually done the course.

I took the"advanced diver" course two years ago. I think he may call it something else now. Outstanding. I've been diving almost 40 years and had no idea how much I didn't know. The course taught me how to dive 30 meters with relative ease and especially safely. No question what I learned in the course saved my buddy's life last summer. I can't say enough. Those guys really do a fabulous course. Highly reccommended.

thanks Connor.. i am so much looking forward to it.. (although i haven't had a response from them yet?)

started putting the bucks away for november... think it will be an investment well worthwhile!

hope to see some whales too...

I took a course with them last year and another with them this year (last month). They took me from a 38m(pb) to 62m(pb) over the combined nine in water sessions. I will definitely be doing some more work with them(hopefully in November). They have incredible knowledge but also and probably more importantly and amazing ability to watch you and then articulate almost exactly whats going on in your head at the time and follow that up with great advice that allows you to move forward in your diving

Hi Andy
you are talking to novice in terms of acronyms here

62 m depth or pool length?

I cant wait to go.. i have already rustled up some help regarding accommodation and hawaii and looked up airticket prices.. oh man....!!!

......the only one that really matters to me :p ....depth (constant weight)

That's impressive.. so do you compete now? do you still dive to those depths and keep up your training to that depth?

Kirk's courses are phenomenal and empowering. You wont regret it!
Cheers,
Erik Y.

I have taken Kirk's courses a number of times now if you include my "refreshers". All were taught here in Ottawa, Canada. Taking the course will be one of the best investments you will ever make in freediving.

Every course I attended Kirk seemed to have elaborated upon and built more into each one. The style of teaching provides you with a great deal of theory on diving and physiology while also providing for a great deal of in water time to practice what you have learned in the classroom.

Most of the people I dive with have taken his course, but when the odd diver comes along who hasn't I can really see the difference. Often they are not as safety conscious or knowledgable.

Enjoy the course.

Jason

I took Kirk's course a few years ago and would love to find the time to do a refresher.

Everything everyone else has said here is the truth- you really can see a difference in ones attitude towards safety depending upon if they have taken the course or not.

The time I took it a added 25' onto my PB in 4 days. I would love to go back and see what I could do with the proper safety cover that they provide.

...in what other sports can you have the current world champion and his coach provide you with close to 1:1 advice and coaching......freediving is extraordinary in this regard and I will always look for more coaching from these guys when they are doing courses in Kona.

Island Sands - I did my last course with them in Kona last month and got to 62m comfortably and then took 10% off for the Kona comp the following week. That was my 1st comp and I was happy to do a clean/conservative 56m.

hi Connor.. well i paid the deposit on the course today... no turning back! What happened to your buddy? Just interested, as its probably something i could learn from being that we are going to be out in the water a lot practising, from now until November.

Sara

Sara, It's somewhere on DB, but I can't remember where, perhaps Connor can tell you. I also took the course and agree with what's been said. Apart from improving your skills, it really sets the "safety chip" in your mind. And, you'll have a great time to boot, er to fin! :D We had lots of laughs with the team.

where did you do your course Ade?

Hi Sara,

You will love the course.

The story (in detail) is in Freediving Stories, something like "Lessons from the Bahamas, and intimate account of our most dangerous enemy" by unirdna. It created a definate change of attitude in both of us. A search in Freediving Stories for "Bahamas" should bring it up pretty quick.
