Kish Iran: A Great Spot for Americans

I just read Sara-Lise Haith ‘s Dive off the Beaten Track - Kish Island
(Monday Jun 6, 2005 @ 12:31) She is absolutely right. The water is crystal clear and the range of fish is breath taking. It is unspoiled and charming.

It can also be a little intimidating for Americans to travel to Iran. I am just back from my second visit to Kish and I loved it. Travel is easy since no Visas are required and Americans are treated like royalty. Accommodations are available in all ranges from very inexpensive to super luxury and there are about 9,000 beds available in hotels, motels, and B&Bs. It is easy to get to since it is a 20 minute shuttle flight from Dubai. Kish Air is simple but efficient service and very inexpensive.

Spending American dollars in many of my favorite travel spots has gotten very depressing but not in Kish Iran. Meals are inexpensive and cabs are almost free. A 10,000 Rial note ($1.20 US) goes a long way and even paid for a 5 or 6 mile ride to the airport. I loved Kish and am anxious to go back soon.
Best wishes,
Barry O’Connell

Hi Barry

Apparently one of the dive centres in Dubai is considering a trip there....
if i had the time i'd be on the next plane!

I am definitely considering it for late October though.. can't wait to see it.

Thanks for your input,

Sara Haith

Actually I just got here one month ago, settled down....and now, despite the weather, I am starting my research.
Any suggestion is more than welcome....
Please let me know if you dive in next future (I'll be in Italy from the 28th to th 8th July): I am not an expert (Open Water + Night and 30mt dive), but I would like to join a group...

Hi Sara,

I sent you my details with a private msg, please let me know if you have got them.

Talk you soon, Paolo.

p.s. About Kish: flights are provided on daily basis (5) by Kish airlines. The price from Dubai is 525 AED.
The hotel staying is about 40> per night, I am collecting more info...
It seems there is a lot of dive clubs there...

Paolo.

Did anyone get to dive Kish? I'm looking for somewhere 'different' that's reasnably easy to get to. Kish seems to fit the bill. The only dive centre I've found there is http://iranscubadiver.com/_wsn/page5.html Has anyone dived with them? Kish Airlines www site doesn't advise this, does anyone know what the baggage allowance is from Dubai to Kish?

Tim
i just met a couple of Iranian guys who teach at Kish Island - if you want their contact email addy let me know.

Sara
