Kish Iran: A Great Spot for Americans
I just read Sara-Lise Haith ‘s Dive off the Beaten Track - Kish Island
(Monday Jun 6, 2005 @ 12:31) She is absolutely right. The water is crystal clear and the range of fish is breath taking. It is unspoiled and charming.
It can also be a little intimidating for Americans to travel to Iran. I am just back from my second visit to Kish and I loved it. Travel is easy since no Visas are required and Americans are treated like royalty. Accommodations are available in all ranges from very inexpensive to super luxury and there are about 9,000 beds available in hotels, motels, and B&Bs. It is easy to get to since it is a 20 minute shuttle flight from Dubai. Kish Air is simple but efficient service and very inexpensive.
Spending American dollars in many of my favorite travel spots has gotten very depressing but not in Kish Iran. Meals are inexpensive and cabs are almost free. A 10,000 Rial note ($1.20 US) goes a long way and even paid for a 5 or 6 mile ride to the airport. I loved Kish and am anxious to go back soon.
Best wishes,
