Hi,

Question, is ther someone that have good or bad experiance to wear a kneebrace over a wetsuit.
Because i have some problems with my cruciate ligaments (right) that have from the past that have some negative impact with freediving.

Normal with scuba diving i can wear a brace under my drysuit but with freediving this is not a good solution, because the metal in the brace is damage the wetsuit.

I like to hear it.
Regards,
Dieuwert

I've never needed to use a knee brace before, but I did have to wear an ankle brace for a whole summer about two years ago after a bad sprain. I ended up taking all of the padding off of the brace and wrapped it over my 5mm wetsuit. It just happened to slip inside the footpockets of my fins with no ill effects.

On a side note, I found that the brace really helped with bi-fins, but didn't make a bit of difference when I dove with a monofin- probably because the other leg acted as a brace on it's own.

Hi,
Thanks for the information, in my case is indeed also by the bi-fins where i have the problems.
And with the monofin i have also some problems but those are not nearly as bad as with the bi-fins.

At present I am looking at the various forums for the kite and surfing because they have also regularly dealing with knee injuries which can be supported to use a brace over a wetsuit.
So if anyone have any tips or ideas than I like to hear this, but when i myself have found a good solution i will let it know.
Gr, Dieuwert

I wore a knee brace playing Ultimate in college and actually used a neoprene sleeve under it for comfort and fit. I even wore it water skiing. I don't think you'll have any real problems wearing it with a wetsuit.

Hi Dieuwert,

It seems to me that the solution is to wear the brace over the leg of your suit, as long as the neoprene is thin enough that you can get the brace on over it.

It probably would damage the surface of smoothskin material, so in this case have the nylon fabric bonded to the neoprene would seem to be the way to go. If you wan tthe better warmth form smoothskin, you could still use your smoothskin jacket and just buy nylon-covered bottoms for using with the brace.
