Hi Everybody,

First of all happy new year of course (am I too late)?
I was wondering if somebody has a solution for my problem. My stainless (!) steel dive knives have some corrosion spots. What is the best way to remove these? Sandpaper scratches the steel :vangry ...

Thanks,

Sander

Use something like the stuff you clean stainless steel sinks with, the white cream, it works, then keep it smeared in Vaseline, which will keep it nice.

Regards

Bobco

PS mind your fingers when cleaning:D

Agreed with the above.........in addition most hardware or even grocery stores carry products to clean stainless. probably the best thing to do is to clean your knife with fresh water after your dive and dry it good.

If you've ruined it...........we carry a ton of knives......just lets us know your a member of the forum and we'll take care of you.

A member of which forum? Are there discounts for Deeper Blue members?

Reasonable amounts of advertising from small operations who aren't pushy and have lots to contribute to the community is ok. IE: world class freedivers/spearos/scubadivers who develop, test and promote their services are ok.
Blatant advertising from post #1 onward is not.

But we are tolerant and give people the benefit of the doubt, so we'll wait and see if Scuba Brad/Scuba Jerm (same IP) cleans it up a bit. If not :ban
Peace,
Erik Y.

Which grid sandpaper u used, u need to use fine level like 600 and upper. personally I am using 1000 wet sand..Then compoud and voaaaaala like a new dollar bill..The good thing about sanding, u can get sharper blade,..Other solutions are for just cleaning..

Also, after everydive u need to rinse and clean your knife..

Cheers,
Burak

There is some goop called (seriously!) "Naval Jelly" that is really good for removing rust. The tarnish will not come out but the corrosion will. After that, as the others have mentioned, a good coat of silicone.....

Like Island_Sands said, sounds like Scuba Brad might be offering quid pro quo -- a discount to forum members(?). Which is a kindness not extended by all small business that get the odd plug on the forums.

BTW I switched to using cooking oil on my knife, so as not to taint any fish caught (it is also cheap & readily available). However, if you don't go out regularly or don't wash your knife after use -- silicone or mineral oil/grease might be a better bet (vegetable oil will break down much quicker).

i have tested to put melted candel thing to the steel but it needs warming
a little bit but it stays better on the steel than oils, silicon

I bought a new Beaver knife last year. Used it for the first time, washed it after diving and it still went rusty on the edges!!! I have been reading this thread and thought I would try and clean it up. I told my wife that I needed to get some stuff mentioned in this thread. She said "what for? why don't you use lemon juice and a plastic scouring pad". Sure enough it worked a treat! Then I got the usual " I told you so"!!!
