Summers drawing to a close and, I think, everyone's schedule is opening up. So who's up for diving sometime next weekend?

So far I'm open to any day and would drive to where we could get the most people gathered together. I would suggest diving/camping but I think all the campsites in the whole state must be packed.

Respond to this post with which days you have open and what lake you'd want to hit- it would really help if there was actually any VIS in the lake that you mention.

Jon

heading up to Vilas county. I got a little gem I cant wait to dive. also another fall back. I just book a cabin a year in advance

Jim,

My family and I just got back from there! We book a cabin for a week every summer and I've hit a bunch of the lakes up there. Which one are you looking to dive in?

BTW: They also have a killer dive shop up there called "Timber Bay". It's super nice for being in the middle of the north woods- rivals anything around here.

Jon

Laura lake its been clear as bell everytime I've been there.
The other is a No Name about 20 acres and 35 ft deep. Staying on Little Saint.
Stoped in at Timber Bay last Labor day forgot my dive lite but they didnt have much left. Nice folks though.

Jim,

That one came highly recommend to me but I couldn't hit them all. I have dove 12 others and that one is near the top of my list next year, along with Stormy Lake.

I did dive Star lake which is very close and has the remnants of an old logging mill you can dive on. I also hit Crystal lake to the south west of where you'll be. She's got to be the clearest lake up there, but no fish. She's almost 70' deep and vis was over 40'.

Trout lake was great and Ted has spent a bunch of time in her since UW has a research station up there. Right across the street is Sparkling lake which is very clear and has a bunch of UW experiments set up on the bottom of her so there's lots to look at. Big Muskellunge is good, especially if you have a boat.

The odd thing about that area is that you can have so many clear lakes so close to each other and than have a bunch of crappy lakes right next door. I use www.lakesat.org to check the vis on them before I go.

I also met up with the local dive shop for one of their Wednesday night fun dives. I think there must have been 15 scuba divers, and me:t , out in the lake that night. They hit a different lake every Wednesday so you might want to check their website and join in.

Have fun,

Jon

Jon, I'd be up for a day at Devil's lake, either Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. At least it's close enough, too bad no spearing, but at least the Vis should be better than the Madison Lakes,

Brian

Only up for the weekend. Would love to hit them all I know that development has raised hell with the water up there. They just keep putting cabins in tighter. They just added a cabin next door to the one we always rent. It really has degraded the place. Its like a tenement now. ALL the charm is lost. It may be my last trip up there. Of course I keep saying that every year.

It sounds like there might be a bunch of Minnesota freedivers I haven't met yet who would be up for a dip in Lake wazee. It's a bit further than i had planned on driving, but if that's where the most people can gather I would make the drive. Jeff, are you up for that since your the closest one there?

Jon

Looks like the Minnesota crowd is heading over to Crosby Mine instead- too far a drive for me.

Devil's Lake is warm right now, but I heard the vis has gone way down in the past week or so. Still, I have a new camera I'm itching to try out in a real lake- not just the swimming pool.

I'm also thinking about heading to Milwaukee to freedive on some wrecks Saturday morning. If your interested in that, and are comfortable in 20 -30 meters of water, PM me and I can get you on a boat.

Otherwise, if more people are interested in going inland I could be talked into that as well.

Jon

The weekend is upon us and Lake Michigan has been rougher than heck for over a week now- so no boats going out.:rcard

Anyone else up for a dive in some inland lake this weekend?

Devil's Lake has 10' of vis as of yesterday. Does anyone know of someplace better- that's not 2,000 miles away?rofl

Jon

Looks like at least two of us will be at Devil's Lake tomorrow morning between 10 am and 5pm. We're going to meet by the beach house on the south shore if you can make it. Temps have been running in the high 70's to low 80's.

Jon

Bah, and I'm workig again

Will be off only on tues. and wed.

On a good side, I went for some spearing on Lake Geneva this wednesday - vis was so-so, but on the good side - tons of fish all over the place, shot the biggest crappie I've ever seen in my life

There were a few of us who wnet out and had some fun. Lake conditions are down. Water temp was 72F degrees and the vis was aorund 8-10'.

I talked to my father-in-law this morning about how his charters went yesterday. It was a bit bumpy, from all the east wind, and more than a few people got seasick. However, they had 70' of vis at 70' and 70Fdegree water temps! That is frickin' amazing for Lake Michigan! Besides being that warm at depth, the vis usually goes way down when the water does warm up, the fact that it stayed in the 70' range almost makes it worth getting sea sick.

Nothing worth getting sea sick!!! I'm still getting nightmares about one time that I got sea sick

Sorry guys was off the forum for a bit. :head If anyone want to dive in the next few weekend just let me know.

-Jeff

This weekend is out, but how about next?

Jon

Hi Jeff, What and where did you have in mind, I was thinking maybe going to devil's lake this weekend or next just to get wet. Especially next weekend when I hopefully will have my new C4 30's to try out.
