Laguna Beach Report 8.22.09

Arrived to Laguna at 8 this morning with some buddies. The conditions looked good enough to dive. Suited up and walked down to the beach. Conditions turned in just 15 minutes: looking like a washing machine. The wind picked up and the surge and waves were coming in strong with white caps all around. Couple of divers in training were stranded out about 200' from the beach. Their dive master / instructor were pulling them in one-by-one. Couple of lifeguards arrived to help out and close the beach to diving.

We decided that it just wasn't worth it. Total of 7 rescues today. Laguna Seasport is reporting: BEACH CLOSED.

Sounds grim.

The water is looking very bad down here in San Clemente too.

Its a shame, because today is the LA Fathomiers annual Scramble Meet, and conditions have been so good all week.
