Hi, heard that Ocean Pro are no longer running the dive operation at Lahami Bay Egypt, does any one know any more and who is taking over the operation.

Thanks

Alan

Since when? That would be a shame. I was there in December 05 and OP ran a good operation there....

Hi Alan,

There is an article in the August issue of "Unterwasser" that confirms that Ocean pro HAS left Lahami Bay. The new owner is an Egyptian that owns 4 other hotel outfits in the area. There is also an article over Lahami Bay in the newest October edition of Unterwasser but I have not had the chance to read it yet. The review that they had last year was one of the main reasons that I went there in December 2005. It will be interesting to see what they say now that the Dive Shop has changed hands.

Hi, just got back a few hours ago, very nice hotel could not fault them at all, we arrived late last thursday and they had a meal ready for us, superb place. the diving by all accounts is still ocean-pro - barakuda, as they are owned by the same parent company!!! , they were also excellent.

The diving was also first class, corals both hard and soft were stunning as was the fish life. As we took a number of divers with different experience level every one came away very happy.

They did the same for us when we arrived later than normal. In fact, they held the restaraunt open for an extra 90 minutes!

I skimmed through the article in Unterwasser last night and they gave them also good reviews but didn't mention that Barakuda is under the same parent company. That is good news at least. Does Alain still run the sho there then? What were the currents like? Last year when I was there, things were totally "messed up" according to the dive guides because the currents were all diffierent than "normal" for that time of year.... didn't make that much of a difference to me but to some it did. It DID make a couple of dives a bit more challanging because you had to work not to swept around the end of a reef block in one place.

As noted in my review, I didn't find anyone outside of my wife (who couldn't dive because of ear problems and unfamiliarity with her new kit) who was not totally enthusiastic about the place.

Hi, no Alain has left, but I think apart from the main team the rest of the instructirs Guides are the same. The currents were not to bad, modest, but on some dives the vis changed a little. Some of the divers felt that the House reef was just as good as the full day boats.

I know Yvette and Dave left as well (I got an e-mail from them that they are now in Mozabique). I dove the House Reef once (with the small boat) with David as the guide but that day the currents were really wanky and the viz was not all that great (5-8 meters at best). Didn't see an awful lot that day.... The boss and I went snorkelling a couple of times from the walk-in area off the beach and that was MUCH nicer than the little boat trip.

Did you get out to Claudio? VERY impressive but that was one place that the currents made tricky since you had to swim against them to get to the main opening.

I have some photos (not as many as from the Maldives but a few) from Lahami Bay in my gallery, including one of a rather large and rather curious Napolean who was trying to engage me in a staring contest.... :D
