No diving to speak of but I did get out to checkout the lakes.
Spent about 2 hours biking yesterday and hit the outlet, yahara river, and went out to picnic point. The outlet has fish in it, but vis is less than 2'- you can see the backs of the carp breaking the surface. The yahara is open but vis has dropped quite a bit in there. I saw a little bit of open water by the rowing center on Lake Mendota, but vis is even worse there than the outlet!:head
This morning a friend and I went out kayaking for a few hours. There's quite a bit of open water on the south end of town. You can put in by Rutabaga kayak shop and paddle down through mud lake into Lake Waubesa. The north western part of Waubesa is open, but the rest is still iced up.
From there we paddled down the E-way and ran into some pissed off otters- they hissed at us and everything!:martial There were also lots of birds, but no vis anywhere.
You can paddle north through the river and end up in Squaw bay- on Lake Monona. Most of the bay is open, but the rest of the lake is frozen solid.
We did run into two divers, but they were using a hookah and dredging out part of the river for some construction project. I, assume, it was Koz as he does all the commercial work in town. He's a nice guy and I've done one salvage job with him in the past- bringing up a cabin cruiser out in Lake Michigan. He looked pretty busy busting his hump in 4' of water with the dredge this morning- no vis there either.
Winds have been out of the east so Lake Michigan is a mess- at least on this end of the lake. I imagine things are beautiful over on the other side of the lake- by Fondueset.
Biking and paddling is fun, but I'm anxious to get diving again. Maybe it's time to get out the chainsaws for one more ice dive?
