I'm thinking about going for Lake Geneva panfish tomorrow. Anyone have any suggestions for easy access to the lake without a boat to target panfish?

Thanks.
Brian

Bglaeser- I will be there around 1:00 with my friend Jeff , from Russia. There are several places to get access from shore...Should be plenty of Rockie's and Bluegills around if you know where to look.

I may want to go to Geneva Bay and try to find "the tree" in 30 F.O.W. Alway's has big tight lipped Crappie's hangin' around it all year long...Comes up to about 12 feet and is an actual whole big "tree" standing up at the bottom of the lake!

You can join us if you'd like...I may go in by George William's University Campus' Water Safety Patrol Building. Message me if you want to meet us!

Khel...If you read this send me a P.M. - I have not done a shore entry at the "new" safety patrol building yet. I presume there would be no problem right? Otherwise I will be going in at Linn Pier or Williams bay near that little park.

I live only about 15 minutes from Lake Geneva.

Yes, I'll try to make it. I work until noon tomorrow though and then will try to head out. (Maybe get there at 1 or 1:30) I do have a boat we could use if we need it, but since I was planning to go by myself I thought I'd try to avoid the hassle of trailering, launching etc. But if a boat would help, I can provide that. Maybe leave a note here tomorrow as to how I could meet up with you.
Thanks!

A boat would be awesome! The only problem might be is HOPING to get a spot to launch at. But I'm sure around 1:30ish most of the fishermen should be packin' it up or already have by then.

Some of the places I go from shore at Lake Geneva are somewhat questionable as to it's legality...Atleast having a speargun and transporting it across a park to the water and or going it from shore from near or at a boat launch..I have done it right in front of cop's. At Linn Pier it says something about a Town of Linn ORDINANCE on a sign about speargunning/bowfishing etc. It was there that I talked to a Town of Linn cop in all of my spearfishing regalia and with an unloaded speargun and dive knife strapped to my leg. When he asked what I was doing I told him I was after carp and panfish and that I was going to swim down shore away's and try my luck there. He told me "Just dont go in some (I forgot the name) Lagoon area" "or they'll be callin' the cops and I'll have to come back and make you get outta there'."

He seemed kinda amused that I was going for carp but said nothing about the sign that said something in regards to no spearfishing/bowfishing near the area. The sign was right behind him!!! Did I get lucky or is it O.K. I've also wondered about the signs that say "no swimming"...Would freediving and or spearfishing be considered swimming??? I would'nt think so, but you never know. And I'm too afraid to ask and have them tell me NO after I've done it with no complaints or problems a whole mess of times!

I KNOW that going from a boat is just fine and is 100% legal...I also beleive we can go in at the Water Safety Patrol Building from shore...But I've never tried at the "new one" but at the old one, a handfull of guy's used to freedive and spearfish there and near there and were welcome. I also have a 'private" spot but I can't take anyone there...from shore anyways...When I originally got permission from the landowner she told me "it's o.k. as long as you come by yourself - no bringing your friends here cuz next thing I now people will be knocking on my door all the time!" - I thanked her for permission and have since went there many times. She's all smiles when I bring her some big fat Lake Geneva Bullheads!

Also Camp Norman Barr is a good spot to go in off of but there I also had to ask to permission - And I am only allowed there during the "off" season - When no kids are there using the facility. Right now it's full of inner city kids from Chicago up until late September.

So yes...A boat would be a plus...Sometimes I take my Yak...But I have a friend coming and he has no Yak...And a canoe is too hard to re-enter from the water when you wanna move and just not that practical for spearfishing really.

Wadd'ya say-William's Bay at 1:30? I can pay the launch fee and maybe Jeff will fling ya a few for gas?

Pssst -I'm gonna PM you with my cell number...You do the same back...It would be cool to meet you! Maybe we can find where the state record carp are hangin' out! I need one for "The Contest"...You in this contest I speak of? You will be if you're not!

Also if you can't or don't wanna bring your boat...no worries man...We'll still kill some fish! I wanna also get out for some LM Perch on the 16th! Kenosha? Milwaukee? Racine? Port Washington? I don't know...But I'm going!

Bglaesr - I'm there by noon...Call me if you want...I'll still be there and will have my phone on the float...I'm thinking the park in Williams bay. Hope I hear from ya!

Ended up with a bunch of Rock bass - Some of 'em were huge! Also put a hurtin' on a Bluegill, 2 nice Bullheads and a Dogfish...

The Smallie's are ACTIVELY spawning. Some bigger perch are in...The Crappie's will be soon...And then the Bluegills too!

Spent most of the time I was there in Williams bay...Then Bglaesr caught up with me in his boat just as I was going ashore. So then we went down near Fontanna and tried our luck there.

It was cool meeting Bglaeser...

My friend Jeff left after only about an hour...he said he could'nt find any fish???

Vis was kinda crappy for Lake Geneva...Probably only 12-15 feet...But I still had fun and whacked some fish!

Was fun to meet Dan and get into the water! Here he is with his stringerfull :martial

Oh shoot...I have a Lt. Wharf forehead when I look into the sun! I look like a Pirate or something! But hey...Atleast my love handles are shrinkin'!!!

That would been a good one for "THE CAPTION" CONTEST!

Diving with a flag is not "swimming" legally. I know this because there is a lake in town called Smeeckle Reserve and there is no swimming there. But... I have a dive flag, so boohoo campus security.

really. Hmmmmmmmm No swimming allowed on lake andrea..... but i know scuba diving is. Do you think I could swim with flag there and spear? (I could if I had a tank on)

No, the only thing you need is a dive flag. Thats the difference. No scuba tank needed. You are legally "diving" if you have the flag.

When we were kids the Madsion Police rquired a dive flag even if you were just swimming in open water. Its not just a "DIVE" flag . Its the spirit of the law

All I know is that you can use it to weasel your way into places where you shouldnt be. For example the local wildlife reserve. Sign says no swimming. Well once you have a dive flag you are no longer swimming.

Gonna go get me some big 'gills in the A.M. - Bringin' the yak as a "water hazard" so the freakin' boats will hopefully stay a bit farther away than usual...:head

If anyone want's to join me lem'me know...I'll be going in at Linn Pier. I'll check back here later on tonight!

Never got out today....Was sick ALL :yack day. Some sort of stomach bug...Just startin' to feel better I think...

Tomorrow I plan on doin' Milwaukee or Racine after workin' in West Allis...I hope I feel a bit better...:hmm
