Hi
I have started to practice dynamic apnea without fins in the swimming pool.
Until now I have been constantly swimming freestyle, and never practiced breaststroke.

I saw in videos that everyone who does dynamic apnea without fins , do the same leg movement as in breaststroke.
So I started practicing breaststroke especially the leg movement however , I found that for me it is still much easier (when doing dynamic apnea) to do a freestyle kick instead (just like with fins) . I go on longer with a small freestyle kick instead of a breaststroke leg movement, i.e hands then a single kick , hands , kick ,etc. A kick takes me further than the breaststroke leg movement. (My hand move like in breaststroke , only the leg movement is different)
My question , is the breaststroke leg movement really better for dynamic apnea, should I keep practicing and eventually find that it is easier or is it individual and I am better off with my own style.

Thanks.

To get a good kick you need to keep practicing and stretch to improve you flexibility.
Simple laps where you just do the breaststroke kick with a board will help you a lot.

The breaststroke kick really is better. A good dolphin kick is also much more efficient underwater then the freestyle kick.
Because you can relax between each kick, the breaststroke kick will be less taxing on your heart rate and help you for apnea.

I invite you to look at this video to get a sense what I mean:

Breaststroke kick also uses a much more diverse array of muscles than flutter kick, which means that for most people they will not feel the same leg muscle fatigue when doing breastroke kick. Muscle fatigue can be a limiting factor for pool DYN events.
