"heres a sneak peak at the 25 vintage Spearguns that will be brought to the Event from a Private collection.
The vintage guns were once owned by some of the fathers of spearfishing and include spring guns, Co2 bottle guns, Co2 soda charge guns and band guns. All except the Bill Kroll gun were last shot only by their owners.
Big Jim Christiansen
Jack Prodanvoch
Charlie Sturgill
Herb Sampson
Mel Clark
Dick Jappe
Dick Bonin past Pres of Scuba Pro ... very much alive and well.
Billy Kroll Past Long Beach Neptune drowned at Catalina Island
Red Fiberglass under water sled featuring twin mounted spearguns and a viewing port.(rumored Sea Hunt)
Two of the oldest Cyprus wood spearguns from Florida ever to be found.

Guys will have to attend the meet to see guns in this once in a life time showing."

Jack Prodonavich's Personel gun collection will be on display , His son Robin and wife Gerty will be in attendance as guest of honor also

This is going to be such a cool event, I have been waiting all my life to shake the hand of The Godfather of Speros; Art Pinder. I have a Sports Illustrated on my dive den wall that I've been saving for a autograph for a long time.
I want to commend your club; Los Pistoleros for putting in the hard work to make events like Operation Ocean Freedom and the Legends of Spearfishing such outstanding events where something is given back to future generations and our service men.:friday

All the best, Don

Cool stuff Joe. I'm looking forward to see some pics of the event on DB (any chance?).

Do I understand well that "our" Don Paul will be the opening speaker?

Just finished the "Last of the Blue Water hunters" book that I got for Christmas. So many of those names are listed in the book detailing many of their accomplishments that are so unbelievably remarkable. I am so envious!

Have a great day!

I was impressed to see the 1950 Sports Illustrated cover dedicated to a spearfisher, and I was even more impressed to read this here about Pinder:
Skin Diving History

"In the early 1950's the Encyclopedia Britannica gave an explanation of spearfishing, they called it Pinder Fishing (!!!) and said it was named after Art and his two brothers, Donald and Fred, who were also among the great world class divers of that time".

I wonder if an important magazine like SI would still today give its cover picture to a spearfisher. I've only heard and read about the times when our sport was so much widely socially respected, admired and valued as it used to be a few decades ago.

In response to Don's SI cover, I'll throw in this 1950's "spearfishing legend" (see pics attached). "Paperino e la pesca subacquea", 1953.

Love the D Duck Spag, cool find. The Pinder bros SI story was from Sept 5 1955 and I read it over and over when I was a kid. Frogmen were the heroes on the New England lake I grew up on.:friday
