This is a general question. Background. I’ve posted before. I’m been doing dry statics 6 months. Alternatively CO2 and O2 charts. Won’t get into that it’s all well documented. Let’s discuss diet. In 6 months I’ve gone from 4:10 to 6:00. Let me say this however. What I eat and when I eat and how much I eat greatly effects my ability.

For example. If I eat a heavy meal the nite before this will decrease my ability to do either charts.

If I eat lite my training is easier. I do not know yet if eating steak versus seafood versus neither does anything. Theoretically meats like steak could produce more Co2. I’m curious about in competition do the elite divers and breath holders fast? If so how long? This theoretically would decrease O2 metabolism and Co2 production when the body goes into a dormant starvation mode.

When I try to get my next PB of 6:30 I’ll play with this and eat very little 24-48 hours prior. Any thoughts welcomed.

It's best to have your stomach completely empty and all disgestion stopped, bowels empty when freediving. Nothing greasy or heavy the day before. Banannas provide energy and digest quiclky. On my workout days (evenings) I eat a light lunch and a banna about 1 1/2 to 2 hours before the workout.

I'm fairly new here, but your journey with dry statics and experimenting with food is fascinating! As for elite divers and breath holders, I'm curious too. Do they go for the fasting route? Would be awesome to hear more thoughts and experiences from the seasoned folks here. Looking forward to following your progress!

Kudos on the progress from 4:10 to 6:00 in 6 months—that's impressive. I've been into dry statics too, and I've found that sticking to natural foods, you know, the whole nature's bounty vibe, really makes a difference. Lighter meals, like veggies and fruits, seem to keep things smooth for me. Haven't delved into the steak vs. seafood debate yet, but your point about CO2 production makes sense. Your idea of tweaking your diet for the next PB attempt is interesting. Fasting 24-48 hours prior sounds like a bold move!

I wonder if focusing on those all natural food during that time could enhance the experience. It's all a bit experimental, but that's part of the fun, right?

I've had a similar experience with my training. Eating heavy meals the night before really weighed me down and affected my performance. On the other hand, when I stuck to lighter meals, I felt much better during training. As for fasting, I haven't personally tried it, but I've heard some elite divers do it to optimize their performance.
