What tools are you using to build your guns? Which ones work best? Which ones have failed miserable? Power or hand, maybe a combination of both. As my first speargun nears completion I find myself thinking about better ways to accomplish my speargun building dreams.

Well since I started this thread I'll share what little experience I have.

Best Tools.
Stanley fat max chisels, love em big handles easy to control multiple sizes and the price is right around 5 to 6 USD each.

Files, various types work great at finish work if your careful.

Hand Planers, I currently have a 7 and a 3 inch, slightly tricky at first always test them on a scrap piece of wood before you use them on your stock.

Wooden dowels and multiple types of sandpaper, excellent for smoothing out any rough edges in the shaft track.

Dremel, with the multiple attachments and low cost, the Dremel is really a very handy tool.

Hand saw, not the best method but when you have a dream some sacrificies must be made.

ICY/HOT, for shoulder using hand saw. :duh My world for a tablesaw.

Worst tools.

Craftsman 9 inch Band saw, I really hate this saw. At purchase I envisioned straight cuts. Yeah right the bottom edge of the blade sways like a drunk at Mardi Gras no matter how much I tighten the blade.

Looking forward to reading everyone's post.

When I think "favorite tools" I sort of think about which tools made the most contribution to my gun building adventures.

I have to give credit to these:

Table saw

plunge router with table

bench top drill press and vise

bench grinder

hack saw

Files

clamps

sandpaper

dial callipers

I haven't built a spear gun but do do some wood working.
Don't curse the band saw it can be the best freind u own.
They are hard to use at first and require some getting used to.
They are not a tool in the common sense, more like an instument. They must be tuned up and tuned for each different type of cut. I am still learning new tricks with mine and I have owned it for years. Pick up a book on it, there are volumes on the subject. Band saws can increase your creativity.
Perhaps I will make a speargun oneday:)

good luck
