I have done a few night dives now and am looking at light beacons for my SMB so i can be seen from the surface and by my buddy.

There are a number of beacons out there but i thought i'd see what is recommended before making a purchase as i'm not sure some of them are going to be bright enough. I have used glow sticks but find they aren't bright enough to be easily seen.

What do you use or recommend?

Cheers

What size glow stick do you use? We use the 6 inch ones marketed to raving but we find them adequate in length of illumination and brightness.

Agree with daff,

Ebay is your place.....lots of big n' thick glow stick for sale and very cheap!!

I bought a waterproof torch From Othree for £10. It comes with different coloured lenses and runs of AAA batteries. It is reusable and quite bright so worked a treat for me and my mates

Life jacket lights work a treat, has a long cable to the light which can be cable tied to a plastic pole. Battery pack fits on your buoy and can get wet. Got some at work if your willing to wait until Sept 3rd when i go back!!! Being on a fast boats or two in work the last thing your going to see is a light lower than you rubber tubes. Not exactly a steaming light, but a sporting chance i guess. Was in the water one night last week and could see the two police wet bikes tanking around, always kept one eye on them buggers!!!

Thanks for the input guys. I've been using the large glow sticks mainly in red and want something a bit brighter though they were great attahced to your snorkel when close together.

I should be able to get an old lifejacket light from work Wolf (but thanks for the offer). I think they have a 10hr burn time (salt water activated), hadn't thought of using them at all, it could be exactly what i'm after.

I know one of my mates was using this last time we were out and it's very visible.

Thats said i'll see how i get on with the lifejacket light first. Always start with the free option!

Cheers

i used to use something very similar to this.. although a little less cheap looking,
Blue LED Light Glow Stick Pen Flash Torch Lightsaber Tube Sabre Keychain Party | eBay great and never changed the battery in a whole season.. eventually lost it off the float but worked better than the glow sticks I was using before hand.. another thing that worked really well was one of those cheap keyring led torches with the button taped down.. the sort about the size of a old 10p..
Lol I am old..
Good hunting
Joe
