Almost eevrytime I fire my gun the line near the shock line knots up. It don't know what causes it it. Anyone have any ideas???

Are you referring to the line that connects the shaft to the speargun, or perhaps to a rubber snubber that connects to the speargun?

If so, it sounds like you must be using some sort of thin fiber line. Either use something thicker and stiffer, or switch to monofilament line.

my buddy used to have this problem, he was too lazy to secure the line to the line release so it ended being tangled or cut very frequently...

I have 200lb kevlar line on it. It's where the rubber bungy(shockline) connects to the kevlar shooting line.

I would be surprised if 200 pound kevlar DIDN'T tangle.

However, I suspect you are using a very small gun and that light line was provided with it because thicker line would cause to much drag on the shot. I don't have any experience with that sort of gun, so I better defer to those who do.

my gun is 55". I has 3 bands. Could that be the problem? To much power and to crappy of line. When the line pops back, is that causing it to knot up? Maybewasn't specific. It is where the shooting line meets the shock absorber. that is where it's knotting.

switch to mono and follow the rigging info in the beginer spearo thread that should solve you problems. sounds like the line is just to thin.

I use a barrel swivel, the brass type that sea-anglers use, between the bungee and the monofilament and I never have knotting problems.

Hiya

I'm actually amazed that your 200lb line hasn't snapped yet!!

All line, regardless of type, will be weaker after its knotted or crimped. Assuming a 10-20% drop in strength, a 200lb line would be closer to 160lb's and not very strong for a 3 banded gun!! Rather use 2.0mm (350-500lb) mono instead. No tangling and much cheaper too!!

i use 1.5-1.4 mm mono on my mamba. I think 2.0 is a lot unless you are killing monster fish all the time. I change it it a lot so thicker line doesnt really suit me. I guess it all depends what you are hunting. 1.5mm doesn't break easy.

Where is the best place to get the 1.5 mono...Not too many places have it in Wisconsin, USA?

Thanks.

Here is one place, although there must be many more.

For everyone: I have a new spearfishing gear manufacturing company and one of my first products are 150' and 200' spools of 1.78, 2.0, and 2.2 Specra reel line wraped and a very special abrasion resistant spectra outer weave.

The manufacturer and I have worked on every important physical attribute important to reel line.We have been worlking on this for about 6 weeks now and it will be instock very soon. Here are the best things about it:

1. It will be available in 4 colors (custom created for me)

2. It will be the finest reel line available on the market.

3. It will be the most affordable reel line on the market.

I will be wholesale distributing the line to diveshops all over the US as well as making it available in my own store. Because of the quality of the product and the pricing, there is a very good chance it will be available at an affordable price in european dive shops as well.

I have kept my mouth shut for the past few months regarding my new ventures, however this thread was a perfect opportunity to discuss one of my products.
