Hi, I am interested in increasing my lung capacity to hold my breath at least 3 minutes. I am a swimmer and I am 17. I am 5'11 and I can hold my breath for a PB of about 2:05.

I have come across a lot of lingo that seems common to you all but is foreign to me. Can somebody on here start a list of lingo used on this forum? For example, maybe each person could just define a couple of terms.

The first one I was wondering about is "packing"

thanks a lot

George

thanks a lot. that was very helpful. i increased my personal best to 3:30 last night out of water. i learned that you have to be able to tolerate pain after the point of thinking you really really need a breath.

Yup, just take it easy and be cautious. Some of the stuff you'll find in these forums might be outright dangerous, if proper safety is not in place.

The number one safety rule is of course: don't ever dive alone and who ever is watching you, should know what they're (and you are) doing.

You don't need to use packing and/or other "advanced" techniques to reach 3 minutes in static. Learn the basics first. Proper breathing (before and after your performance), relaxation, physiology etc.
