Literature on Spearfishing

Hi everyone
Does anybody out there know of any good books on fish identification, spearfishing, freediving, ect... I am a complete rookie and dont know anything about spearfishing except the complete basics. Scratch that, I dont even know the basics! So if anyone knows of some good books for a beginner like me I would greatly apprecite it. Thanks!

I'd read anything by Carlos Eyles (my faves are The Blue Edge, Secret Seas, and Last of the Blue Water Hunters. They are not intended as instructional, but it is highly motivational, contains numerous mindset and instructional themes, and are just really good reads.

Here are a couple of suggestions for books on the local fishes. The shorter one is
Pacific Coast Inshore Fishes by Daniel W. Gotshall

The complete one is
Certainly More Than You Want to Know About the Fishes of the Pacific Coast, by Milton Love
The Love Lab

You should be able to find either at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. You can also order Milton's book directly from the website.
My favorite is Milton's book, but then, I'm a fish biologist. He has a lot of information, and infuses it with a great sense of humor.

Both have lots of good photos, and both cover a lot of the species you will find in Central California.
