i just tested out my home made spear gun for the first time today. i was having quite a few problems loading the gun. my gun kept slipping down my chest when i put to much pressure on the bands. this was partial solved by putting a wetsuit vest on. but it still slipped a few times. i have a pretty long gun (53 inches) and i am having trouble bracing it on my chest. I got some pretty bad bruses from loading it today and tips or a modification i can do to my gun the make the loading easer.

try hip loading if you cant load it on your chest. I usually wedge my gun on my weight belt buckle to keep it from slipping.

The only other thing would be to wear a vest or suit. If you keep getting bruises you can add a layer of neoprene to your vest or us a rubber slipper inside your top.

you could try putting a non-slip pad on your wetsuit. use the same kind that they put on bathtubs.

You could also put a soft pad on the end of the gun but to help with the bruises.

How many bands do you have to load?
A 53'' gun is a very long gun but if you use metal wishbones there is an adapter available where a rod is inserted in the actual wishbone thus considerably shorting the reach.

i have 3 bands the shortest is 20 inches long yesterday i have chord wishbones. the length of the bands is not really a problem its just hard to get the gun butt to my chest but i putt a slipper under a wetsuit vest and it was much better.

hipload it that's not too large of a gun. I hipload my 110cm rabitech with short 20mm band and I'm no chuck norris...:)

uhm if nothing works try having a rest tab (cheater tab; a notch or sharkfin halfway on your shaft) on your shaft that way you can hip load it up to the rest tab and then chest load to the main notch/sharkfin. that`s what i did with my selfmade eurotype speargun and i have no problem eversince. hope this helps, safe diving/spearing :)
