Wheww I'm I glad we were able to get our fix before this storm...I'd probably be crazy by now if it wasn't from this 10hour trip that gave me my fill... till this weather blows over,
tumbleweed.gif
) hmm perhaps food for another thread...

Anyways we headed over to Long Key to visit fellow spearo Sporascrub...like usual met with a gleeful smile, and his moms genorosity and delicious cooking... La Ardilla (the Squirrel my 15 yo son) did not join us on this venture (in that he was quite busy talking to some unknown female till 5'ish in the am, and was complaining about some blisters on his shooting hand
jerkit2.gif
) so her cooking was reduced by half...we headed out like clock work at 7 to meet some very pleasant seas, under 2...our first drop in GasMoney rock had under 10' vis (which is the norm) and some very warm water on the bottom, we shot a few reef denizens and I had a double whammy meet with a couple of aggressive reefies, since murky water and sharks don't mix we headed to our next #....MangoMania or something like that...vis was sweet T-B in 30'ish but the current was kicking our arze we strategized the dive with boat placement and tow ropes and managed to set some steel on some fish...off we went to find some clearer seas and calmer current, while on our way we found some sweet bottom on the scope and dropped in for a couple mile drift in 40-50' we covered some very fishy ground and pulled a few hogs, muts and macs ( a very nice one from av001 at 15 feet).

To me one of the most pleasurable ways of spearn' is ocean drifting...it seems time sits still when I drop into the ocean and drift wherever it takes me, aside from doing this for hours on end (capt'n permitting) I find it to be very productive, and very little taxing on one physically...we combed this area twice and headed over to BlackElusion ledge where SS has developed a relationship with a black (hence the hole's name). Vis was great and current was cooperative, on the first drop I was met with the mango train, one stood out from the rest so I dropped on him they all headed over to a rock and the biggest swam under it only to haul ass out just as fast, that reaction could only mean 2 things so I went back up did a good breath up and went quietly to the rock, hidden well inside was a very decent 'go that found himself on the end of my arrow a mightfast, the area produced a few more fish and roaches and we moved a few hundred yards over to a new area that a quite kind-hearted fellow spearo had provided av001 with. By now the seas had picked up to 4's, after combing the vicinity with the sonar, coupled with the capt'n knack for reading the ocean and av001 osprey-eye like capacity, and extreme ocean savy we came upon a ridgey, sandy bottom that read "muts be here" as the two award winning spearos had fish blood on their minds they hasteningly pulled a 911 on the calmer spearo and quickly jumped into the ocean....fortune has it that the calmer spearo was of a cheerful manner and took it all in stride, and let the 2 extreme predators raise havoc on the newly discovered hole...after dropping in to meet up with the youngsters I noticed the claw was half way to the bottom and the boat was drifting at a fast click, so I mustered all the kindness in my heart
boohoo.gif
and swam back to the boat while in my mind I saw flashes of Muts and Blacks waving white flags as the young guns showed no mercy...I jumped back into the boat, pulled the claw (all 60+feet in) drove back, positioned the boat (to save my fellow spearo friends the tedious 600 yard upcurrent swim back to the boat) dropped the claw tied up, and , and, oh yes , and went into the blue, vis was about 20' in the 50+ we were diving so the hunt went down to halfway an my first decent I saw 2 muts that went 24 easy so indeed the place was nice, av001 mohawked a 30+ black (i'll let him tell the story) and in short the area produced some nice fish, but no where near its capacity due to the vis and current, on the way in, but 3.5 miles out we hit our famous rubble pile...SS shot another nice porgy and a few other cooler-filler fish completed the list...had a hell of a scare

with a 8'blacktip
shark4.gif
...and the hunt came to a happy ending with some good friends and a cooler ful'o'fish....of course the best was yet to come when we got to dock SS's mom was there waiting for us with her sunshine smile and masitas de puerco, arroz, frijoles, and some arroz con leche that was off the chain.
