long line without reel?

Hello,
i am currently fishing in the carribbean and i borrowed an el cheapo beuchat gun ( espadon 90 cm )
Problem is, that most of the fish that i try to get are in the 6 to 10 Pound size. So they can be quite a fight if i dont get a perfect shot.
The gun does work if i can get close, however the line is not long enough and i do not like floatlines.
Since the gun does not have a reel and it is impossible for me to get one here ( if it would even fit the 25mm tube ).
Most dives i do for mutton snapper here are between 12 and 20 meters. Yellowtails around 8 to 15 meters
Is there any feasible and secure way to fasten that amount of line to the gun without a mess and a reel?
would not want to lose gun or life

I'd get to learn to like a floatline. A proper vinyl one is the best....

While not ideal, in Cuba the locals used simple yellow poly braided rope and a single lobster trap type float (size of a milk jug). It's about $9 worth of materials and will save your gun / allow you to find / recover it.

hmm. ok i am using the emty bleach-cannister i found already for a float.
however since i often hide under ledges or around big sponges, i am afraid the line gets entangled in and destroys the environment or worse entangles me.... guess i will practise today again with it.

Don't think there's any safer way than floatline. Just keep calm should you get entangled and dont panic. A floatline also lets you go up for air while you can leave the gun knowing that the gun is retreivable. Good luck. Cheers. Mozzie

I know what you mean re: swimming between coral heads and rocks.

I just get conscious o the current and the direction I'm swimming. It really only becomes an issue if you swim in a tight circle around a rock with an overhang.

A proper vinyl floatline in general tangles much less than poly rope.

Having the right length of line also mitigates tangles.

the visibility here is not so good on the top 2 meters, so what often happens is, that while going down i have to turn a little bit or change direction, according to where i want to land quietly.
hence the entangling bit...
well. i will get some proper line tomorrow and then see.
if i dont feel comfortable i'll just stick to the small fish

also its m0re a psycho thing i guess.
being entangled in a line with a big barracuda on one end feels... bad.
