Headed out this Sun. after the front to Long Key. The drive down was pretty cool as we had about 50 ft viz on the road due to the heavy fog, kinda reminded me of my midnight drives up to Okeechobee for the annual duck hunts with my uncle. Well NOAA said it'd be under 10mph winds with some scattered showers, my bud had gone the day prior (Sat.) and encountered under 5' viz...but man I've been jonzin' to wet me gills so we decided to "travel light" and hit Long Key on the ski's. 6 on the am found us driving down the the fish stretch arriving about 8'ish- by then the fog fizzled and we were greeted with a beautiful day, zero wind, seas calm, I mean less than 1'...current was very light, viz was practically T-B everywhere we dropped. I had some new numbers I had picked up on the last adventure and I wanted to investigate it a bit more so me and the O'V drew up a game plan and plotted our way to the spots. WOW every place we hit had fish in the house, seemed the ocean was crawling with Gags, some shorty's, but most legal and healthy we filled our limit within the hour. We managed to shoot a few nice mules (Big Yellow Jacks) quite a few hogs, a decent sheepshead, and probably my personal best octupus. Damn them critters are masters of deception!. We were drifting a spot and my eye caught some telltale movement, that quickly registered as an 8-legged critter, next to a pretty big sea fan, I gulped some air and went down to get him in about 40', when I reached the fan I searched and he was nowhere to be found, I left my gun marking the spot and followed my floatline up. I was certain he was around so I just chilled on top waiting him out. He finally made a move....he was about 6" from my gun and about a foot away from the seafan, in other words he was right in front of my nose and I never saw him- took a gulp submerged and poked him...someone say SUSHI.

ooops you'd probably like these too...my bad:head

JTK I was waiting on those 500#'s what happen BUDDY:rcard?[/quote]

dude, i am not typing 500#s into the computer. for what area and what depth you would like. i dont have anything up your way. all my #s currently are from american shoal light,(approx. MM 20) down past key west and to just past marqueasas. i got a bunch of gulf side wrecks too. remember that one gulf wreck i took you to? i got about 12 more within 15 miles of that. plus coral heads in the gulf. my one buddy is gonna give me all his spots out by the tortugas. they are all in his gps on his boat, so i have to climb on the boat and sit there copying them. that will pretty much be it. i dont know anyone who has#s up there. most people down here go west to the marquesas and beyond, not up keys. with the exception of the hump in islamorada, the fishing is better down here, i have heard. the guys who gave me their #s are both fisherman, so most of the #'s are deeper wrecks and stuff. alot of them too deep for anything i need anyway. lately i got the blue water on the brain. so we have been doing some deeper water stuff. this coming year i plan to do alot of blue water. so i use stuff that is around 160ft max. so what area and what depth would you like? i will gladly take the time to type out 5 or ten spots. how about some humps in 30 ft of water,(15 to the top) out in front of sugarloaf key? i will throw in some shallow ledges nearby. all would be ideal to reach on your ski's or even a kayak. the current rips out by marquesas and beyond on most days , so you end up doing drifts through whole sections. the water is so clear out there most days, that you can sight your way to the best ledges and stuff. i am really excited about this place" tail end buoy" it marks the end of the reef. there are canyons and deep ledges that hold the BIG BOYS! if you look at a chart the depths go from 145 ft up to 40 ft in cliffs all along with deep coral fingers. it is the end of the reef, about 15 mile past the marquesas, and 20 miles below the tortugas. killer spot. possibly the best reef spot in florida.alot of tournament winning fish came from there.last year a guy won hurricane hole tounament with a 59# black from there,(scuba)

yo, your the one that offered the "500":hmm, I don't even recall asking you for them, my recollection was a humble invite with my crew as we was headed out your way on Mon...for that matter all the Keys is good, sure numbers are always good to have donated, but a good map and sonar is all one needs to find spots and the Keys you don't really have to look far...btw guess you didn't realize it

was just a joke man, chill

no worries man. yeah, realistically you dont even need #s down here for all the shallow stuff, when its clear, you can see the coral from the boat. personally, i prefer using #s BTW: thanks anyway for the invite. looks like you did good anyway. some buddies went out on mon. and did ok too. also, i am selling my 17 ft mako, if you are interested, or know anyone. 3500$
