Hi friend.
For a foreinger it is not legal to hunt in turkey. But illegal things is legal. I mean you can hunt in side, it is a lovely place to hunt. licence is 3 $ to get from the city of Antalya you can get or If you have a liceance, you will get no problem. Side people loves money, loves tourist. Deep from -7m to -18m, you can see very huge fish and also very small fish, too. Wake up early, give a fisher 20$ at the small harbor(in center) and go and dive. Do not hunt between the people in the sea.
Last year a friend of mine hunted 30kg, 45kg 2 lichia amia.
Ask fishermen, name is ŞAHİN .he has a small boat at the small harbour, give him 10lt oil and no money, he can take you where the fishes are.
Fishes; dentex(Very Clever), lichia amia(player), Sparus aurata(Clever). No sharks but there is a current in some point, Be aware!
Tell me how you professional and dive limits and deep time , I can tell you more, which fish you can hunt. Maybe you will not believe, it is not easy to hunt the fishes, living in med sea here. You will get the experience to compare!
I can arrange you a spearo(no need money, offer 2 beers enough), he can take you the rigth place, where you comin'.......... and when?
For now..all i can say................
Regards
Sedate

Where exactly would you go for the licence? Is there a shop on the harbour? or do you need to visit the goverment offices? Ive often wondered where you get these things

Tarım ve köy işleri Bakanlığı(Ministry of farmer..............), ask a friend who knows better english than me in this form to translate.. I didn't translate, sorrrrry! No in Side, in Antalya(45min from side, all main cities has this kind of office. Just fill a paper(2 small picture needed), drink a turkish tea or caffee, will bring you the liciance)

Almost forgetting!
Nigt hunting,Tank Hunting, Epinephelus Gigas(orfoz), epinephelus aeneus(lagos), Sciaena umbra(eşkina), Delphinus delphis(yunus) are definately unlawful(illegal) hunting fishes. FEE aproximately 400$ or 1000$ changes depends on where and the kind of fishes, you hunt.

You should not encourage people to do illegal diving, they may end up with heavy price tag or even prison...

Be sure that i am not encourage people to do illegal diving. i only say the rules in Turkiye. As you know you can hunt ''orfoz'' in cyprus or maybe in spain. But if you hunt in Turkiye, you will find all scuba's and spearos in front of you and you only will pay fee.
Please do not say something like that, I know the rules, if you want to know all, download the circular 36/2 from www.kkgm.gov.tr. NO prison (hah hah), Only fee charge and you loose your licance(turkish licance).
What says 36/2 circula in turkish as i translated in post 56
Not saying anything else

What i was tried to say is its not legal for strangers to hunt in Türkey, and probably the license you mentioned required türkish citizenship idea to get a hold off..which they obviously does not have :hmm

So you cannot spearfish in Turkey legaly???? :waterwork

I'm interested in spearfishing in Turkey, I know some people in Kas.

Murat, you are from Turkey, right???? :hmm
What is the legal way to spearfish in Turkey???
How can I get the licence or something else legaly, probably from the Coast Guard, and what and where is forbidden to hunt????

I would be very happy If you could answer me, cause I'm thinking of a vacation spearfishing trip to Turkey in October for 3 days. I wiil go there from Rhodes on my unkle's sailing ship, and I can use the tender (4 meters inflatable)...

I know a lot of Turkish who come in Kastellorizo and Rhodes (I'm fron Rhodes-Greece) and the don't know what I can do to fish legaly. They all encourage me to do it the "illegal" way and pay IF they catch me    . I don't like this and I won't do it. But I really want to spearfish in Turkey! :duh

Theres the answer.

So unless you gain a license under false pretenses or using bribery, you cant spearfish. Even then you will NOT be spearfishing legally.

Just because bribery and corruption is rampant in some countries is no reason to join in the fun. :ban

If you read carefully, i said; it is not legal. But again i say it is legal. As you know or not, The spearo from France, called Escalepez(I hope you heard it). 9 or 10 times came to this country. He hunted all kind of fishes araound Burgazada harbour and Büyükada(ist) and prepared atlantis VCD here, too. And sold the fishes to earn a good money, Ask any Spearo from France, if you know. No one asked why you hunt or why you sold?, They do not come anymore, because there is no more fishes to sell in 1991-1993.
Many other Spearos every summer or sometimes in winter comes to turkey..Just to hunt, not to sell.
It is all legal, No need bribery, No need any words to explain.
IF you hunt close to sea shore with a small gun like 75, keep the money with you(no need liceance). Ask the Coast Guard, is there any forbiden zone or any current line in the sea? If say please be away ...................! Hunt where they explain..
Again and again i say;
,,Night hunting,Tank Hunting, Epinephelus Gigas(orfoz), epinephelus aeneus(lagos), Sciaena umbra(eşkina), .
These fishes's population almost finished. let say you have a spearo friend in here in Turkiye, if he hunt one of them, Coast Guard will note this person name, fee, loose liceance. Meanwhile, myself or many friends of mine, never say hello to this person, too. he will stay alone, I hope you understand my mentality!
i hunt every point, not forbiden. Sometimes a small Coast Guard comes,''Heyyy, Be Carefful! Don't go away and don't hunt Epinephelus Gigas(orfoz), Take care yourself, Go on!'' I did not see any who asked me you have liceance or not? But If you have liceance , you will have a good chance to hunt in open water.

Well...

When i searched if its legal for us "outsiders" to hunt in Türkey i end up with answer no and its from very reliable source. Unfortuantelly there are some things that going on about this subject that i can not disclose here...

Xaos, No i am not from Türkey, i am Cypriot.
As far as i know its not legal for you to hunt in Türkey but if you like you can take your chance to try...

Laws and regs for Foriegn (Tourists). in Turkey/North Cyprus

1. IT IS ILLEGAL. FULL STOP.

Regs for Foriegn Residents. application through Farms and fisheries office(Can Be done localy) with your Temporary Residency Permit. Takes about 1 Hour to get Licence.(also costs more than locals pay.)

the Agriculture and Fisheries in Ankara will issue a temporary fishing licence under special circumstances ( ie: you are French and Famous and you want to make a film) to any foriegn Person (if you want the address i can send it to you) this is the only legal way of going about this. But as said in previous advise you will probably never get asked for your license (if you look Turkish) but as a lilly-white foriegner you will stick out like a sore thumb so be careful.

Hey guys. Lets not get into politics! Its against forum rules and aunty Alison will get upset and sulk ;)

Let put in front us the circular. ALL was written by a person or persons. All persons are human beings. Rights? All human beings make mistake, like the human beings that wrote the circular.
IN there, in circular, there is no word or words that saying any foriegner or foriegners can NOT hunt. It means it is legal, ask a Lawyer. You will get what i am saying.

Hi Coyoteduster.
Just got off the phone with someone in the know and apparantly and this is not fact but you are LEGALY allowed to Spearfish in TURKEY on a temporary issued Licence from the Local Arg&fish office, But Here's the hard bit , you can only fish with a fully licenced local fisherman/Spearfisher as supervisor ( a bit like driving a car on a provisional licence.) Now here is the realy good bit, not all offices know about this and may say you cant but you have to tell them to call Ankara and get the right papers to allow you to fish . Sorry it's a bit Vague but things are this way in Turkey.
Anyway Best of luck because its good open water fishing around that area too. and some good deep fishing also. but as sedate says the good fish are illegal and over fished (Grouper) orfoz.
