I'm looking for a new mask for my freedive spearfishing. I am currently using an omer alien which i love, but would like to see if i can find something with a little lower internal volume. I really like the aqualung sphera; however, i want something with glass lenses. Any suggestions?

If you wait a little you can get the Omer Zero (3) - look it up. Otherwise I personally use the Micro Mask and love it :)

Sporasub Mystic. Awesome mask, super low volume and very compressible. I have a narrow face and it works, because it's so soft that it conforms. It would be ideally suited to a "normal" face and I am sure it would also fit a wide face.

Thanks I might wait on the omer zero, it looks really nice. As far as the mystic, my research says it's got a little more volume than my Omer alien already has, so i probably won't go for that one. Thankyou though

I have an alien as well and the mystic is significantly lower volume than my alien. It is lower than my superocchio as well.

I measure / estimate "volume" as the air / void space in the mask both when loosely fitted... and when fully pressed into my face.

Your facial structure will make a significant difference in how a mask fits... But to me the Alien is close to double the Mystic on my face.

I can also recommend Sporasub Mystic, great mask! Comfy and good field of vision for so small mask! :)

The Alien has too much volume, I only use it for uwr. For diving I bought a mikromask and really love it, since it fits my narrow face.

The Micromask has very low volume, but a firm silicone skirt that doesn't compress well. I use it primarily for UWH and UWR for the excellent peripheral vision.

I use a Superocchio for depth that I removed the second seal if a few spots an this aided the seal for my face and made the mask compress better. I am anxious to try the Omer Abyss which is the same design, but softer silicone.

The Alien has more volume, but is super soft, so it works well if I have a few days growth or if I'm diving in 5-7*C water, because there is more silicone coverage.

And for the record, I only recently received the Mystic and have only been able to play UWH / UWR and si some dyn /dnf pool diving with it. The peripheral is almost as good as the Micromask and it is so soft that it doesn't leave a mask-mark around my face!

I believe it will prove to be an exceptional depth-mask. There's a reason so many spearos use it.

It's weird... The Omer Abyss fits my face perfect. The Cressi Superocchio does not fit. They look identical. Maybe because the Omer is much softer?

I'm stuck between the sporasub mystic and the new zero 3. I really like the looks of the zero 3 but haven't gotten to try one on. (and knowing my area probably won't) I did get to try the mystic on and it fit well. I currently use the alien and love it, if it fits well, do you think it will be worth the gamble on the zero 3?

If your face is narrow - don't get the Zero.

I like the look of the Zero online as well, but in person it didn't look as mean on me as it did on the web. It is very angular and not as organic as the Mystic.

The Alien and the Mystic to me, share the same type of soft, pliable and ample silicone that will accommodate a wide range of faces (and also has the benefit of compressing well).

The Mystic just beats the Alien in every way... vision, volume, weight by a large margin.

You won't be disappointed in the Mystic in my opinion.

I've been out in the water now - only to 22 meters (local ship wreck), but it's clear that the Mystic is a great depth mask!

Very little needed for equalizing. I think I only put air in it once on the way down, and that's with it not being super loose on me at the surface.

It compresses very nicely!

I may put an order in on the Mystic. Recommended places?

As far as the Omer 3 .... someone in that thread mentioned their eyelashes touching the glass. I have long eyelashes and it is a great annoyance when they are constantly touching something lol.

Just out of curiosity; what mask are they using in this video? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucivXRBrP_0]GoPro dive housing[/ame]

Most importantly, who are the two divers? :)

The cressi superocchio is what i use and its very low volume. If you're still looking around and need some help choosing a mask check out this guide for mask buying, I think its pretty useful and im pretty sure it recommends the cressi and the alien. good luck
