looking for a soft blade for Noah

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.

Hi i wanted to ask for help form the DB spearos
I just got my 10 year old son Noah a pair of Spetton Foot Pockets

i was thinking about getting Him the C4 falcons with the "25" stiffness

does anybody know if there is a softer blade ??

Hi Joseph,

I have the C4 Flap 25's and they are on the softer side, but when I put them in Sporasub pockets, they aren't that soft due to the bulkier and stiffer pocket. I also have Cressi 3000 LD's and the Cressi's are definitely softer.

If you're looking for fiberglass, I'll bet the Matrix and Edge fins in stiffness 1 will be softer than the C4 25's. They go from 1 to 5, 5 being the stiffest. I've used the 3's which were stiffer than the C4 25's.

Sorry, but given Noah's age, height, and weight as seen by the pics, wouldn't he be better served by shorter snorkel fins like those pink ones in the right most pic? I'd think standard freediving fins would be almost as long as he is tall and would be very hard to push.

BTW, I'm 5'6" tall and weigh 145 lbs.

Demasoni, no need for apologies, I appreciate any suggestions or criticism you have to offer the photo on the far right is 2yrs old , the little guy is growing like a weed

Belive it or not , little Noah is to strong for the plastic snorkel fins and over powers them :martial
I know the c4 fin would be a little long for him we were thinking of maybe cutting them down a few inches with a Dremo tool and finish off the cut with a wet sand with 1000 grit sandpaper
　
　
As far as the cutting of the fins, I know that doing so would void any warranty
I own a few c4 fins like the F30‘s, and 80 flaps the flap bugged me so I cut the flap off to somewhat imitate the Carbon-tek 80 fins its been a little over a year and they have been holding up fine …

Cutting down the C4 fin will kill it's action. It's meant to be that long for it's parabolic action to work. Yeah it will hold up, but now what's the point?

Maybe you could try Spierre fins. Pierre will/can make a custom blade for your son, any length and stiffness you want. Carbon, of course.
 
hmmmm dont cut C4s BAD!!!!

doing so has the obvious issue of warranty, but worse is that as the blades are trimmed back they become stiffer so will be harder for him to kick.

maybe some WATERWAY nemo No1 stiffness blades would work well or ask one of the many monofinning companies to make you a pair, seeing as they make special monofins for the junior market i would think they would have the experience to make some junior freediving fins. please dont cut down any fins as they are mae the way they are based on the mechanics of the fin design and altering that definetly destroys the action they are intended to have.

Second the waterways soft. Put'em in Beuchat pockets which are very soft as well. That is probably about as soft as you can get. My youngest son is a little bigger than yours must be by now, and a pair of #2s in Beuchats work well for him.

C4 used to make a "15"- even softer than the 25's. Specialfins could make you a custom pair of blades as soft as you like. ICE blades are also fairly soft, but prone to breaking.

Your boy may benefit from a shorter blade, but I don't think it's a good idea to cut the C4, or to cut long fins in general. There are not many short fiber fins on the market, though. i can give you a couple of ideas:

Check these GFT Bassofondo Soft: 65 centimeters long carbon fiber blades. But you must order from Italy. http://www.carboniogft.com/prod01.htm

Otherwise, you may look out if you can find anymore left of the Omer Bat Short blades. Not the Omer Bat, that is another longer type: I'm talking of the blades properly called Omer Bat Short.
It's an Omer's glassfiber blade that was only 65 centimeters long (instead of the standard 74,5 of the regular Bat), but was discontinued a couple years ago.
You may drop a line to Mark Laboccetta at Omer USA just to check if they have any Bat Short blades left in their warehouse. You never know.
