Looking for: Freediving/spear fishing lesson. Rate negotiable!

HELLO,

I'm looking for an experienced freediver, spear fisher to give me a lesson on Monterey, CA.

I have all my own gear:
Mask, Goggles, boots, fins, gloves, wetsuit, snorkel, spear, weights & weight belt.

I'm missing extra flotation (bodyboard; longboard; kayak)

I'd love to do it any morning during the week (hopefully as soon as tomorrow; Wednesday).

A little about myself: The extent of my diving experience is very limited. I've gone abalone diving, but never deeper than 6 feet or so. And I have done some surface snorkeling. I'm athletic and a very quick learner.

Welcome ChaaalieBoy. If diving from shore, you need a marker buoy, such as a torpedo float with a diver-down flag (the red & white one in the USA). You'll need a fish stringer to store your catch on, either a cut-able monofilament/cord one around your waist or a cable one attached to the float (safer to start with a float stringer).

Suggest that you read DeeperBlue.com's "Spearfishing for Dummies" articles and threads, they contain a wealth of information in an easily accessible form with lots of images. It's geared to speargun use and it sounds like you might be using a handspear but there is a lot of overlap. It'll save you time & money.

Good luck finding training and/or experienced dive buddies. Local knowledge is invaluable. I recommend that you read Terry Maas's article on Shallow Water Blackout, not to scare you but just so that you are aware of this risk which is little known outside of freediving circles, so that you can take account of it with appropriate precautions.

Now I'm totally confused. The article says to use CPR for blackouts. But I thought you're supposed to use the BTT?
